THIS GUY JUST BOUGHT THE MOST EXPENSIVE ALBUM OF ALL TIME
“We’re about to put out a piece of art like nobody else has done in the history of music,” RZA told Forbes. “We’re making a single-sale collector’s item. This is like someone having the scepter of an Egyptian king.”
Robert Diggs aka RZA of legendary rap group Wu-Tang Clan announced in 2014 that they would be making just one copy of their next album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. The industry’s most coveted album was sold to the highest bidder through an online auction on Paddle8.
News broke today that the owner of what is now the most expensive album in history isMartin Shkreli. Name sound familiar? The CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals has been making headlines lately for jacking up the in-demand AIDS drug Daraprim to $750 a pill. Shkreli has been responding to criticisms saying maximizing profits for his company is what he was brought on to do. Now, he’s “pranking” some of the public figures denouncing him, including Hillary Clinton.
“I enjoy the back and forth,” he told Bloomberg Business.
Shkreli bought the Wu-Tang album for $2 million.
“…he would have the opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrities and rappers who would want to hear it. ‘Then I really became convinced that I should be the buyer,’ Shkreli says.”

Believe it or not… it gets worse. Shkreli’s main concern after his price-hike was that he wouldn’t be able to buy the album, but he told reporters that fortunately the auction closed in time before his Daraprim stunt hit national news. Oh yeah… and he hasn’t listened to it yet.
“I could be convinced to listen to it earlier if Taylor Swift wants to hear it or something like that… But for now, I think I’m going to kind of save it for a rainy day.”
Since then the pharma exec has hosted live streams on Facebook getting feedback from viewers as he makes a list of artists he would pay to make and release albums just for him.
