A symphony orchestra, all-star session players, and a ringside seat at the recording of a track on Alan Parsons’ brand new album
Dateline: 27th Feb 2018, Santa Barbara: Are you a recording professional, thought-leading educator or high end hobbyist with a penchant for state-of-the-art recording practices…?
Perfect. Mark March 24/25 on your calendar, when Dark Side Of The Moon engineer, producer and artist Alan Parsons and GRAMMY Award winning arranger Tom Brooks will be leading an intensive weekend workshop at Hybrid Studios in Santa Ana, assisted by session greats Vinnie Colaiuta and Nathan East and with a full symphony orchestra.
On the Saturday you’ll get to observe and interact with top studio musicians on the tracking session. Alan will go over the miking of Vinnie Colaiuta’s Gretsch and Paiste kit from scratch, discuss the latest technology for recording bass with Nathan East, consider guitar tracking with exciting prog rock guitarist Jeff Kollman, and see how Tom Brooks juggles tonality and technology in his abundant keyboard rig. Day Two sees the recording of a full symphony orchestra where Parsons and Brooks will seek to de-mystify some of the inherent challenges of large-scale recording projects such as sync, phase, balance, processing and recording levels.
Plus, you’ll be part of history in the making. The track, an orchestral classic being given the prog rock treatment (Alan wants to keep the title as a surprise for attendees) will appear on a brand new Alan Parsons album scheduled for release at the end of the year.
Like all Alan Parsons master classes, “Orchestral Maneuvers” is a fully hands-on, participatory event where attendees get to rub shoulders with Alan and the musicians over an entire weekend, coming away with an inspirational and fully immersive learning experience. Photography and non-intrusive video is strictly encouraged!
A Champagne reception, including the presentation of Certificates of Completion closes Day Two.
Tickets to this event are strictly limited. If you have interest in joining this select team of recording enthusiasts, call to reserve a ticket or simply book direct at: http://www.artandscienceofsound.com/mcts/OC.
