UK electronic DJ/production duo PBR Streetgang have released a Paul Woolford remix of ‘Montu’, their collaboration with Crazy P co-founder Ron Basejam via Skint. The release comes a day before their debut on the hallowed BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix decks, the mix being aired in the early hours of Saturday May 26.
The duo say: “Montu is a salute to the UK’s 90’s piano house culture – it’s big, bold and fun! Think ‘Space terrace back in the day’. Montu is a cheeky nod to those glorious days. We simply wanted to make a record that could transport us to that place”
“We always knew it needed an extra element to the original production style, so we enlisted the one person who we knew would understand perfectly the vibe we were trying to create – Jim Baron (aka Ron Basejam) from Crazy P. Long standing friend, and keyboard wizard – his delightful touch brings the entire project to life. Montu: guaranteed good vibes!”
PBR Streetgang is the moniker of Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe, and ‘Montu’ is taken from their long awaited debut album ‘Late Night Party Line, which was released in January. The duo who made their entry as DJs alongside the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Jazzy Jeff while promoting their own night Asylum in Leeds in 2003, have been producing music for nearly a decade – with a collection of celebrated EPs and remixes to their name.
PBR Streetgang have a packed summer of shows, including a date at London’s Printworks and the Notting Hill Carnival.
