To say that Post Malone’s most recent album has performed well in the weeks since its official release would be somewhat of an understatement. Beerbongs & Bentleys enjoyed the largest first-week debut of an album so far in 2018, surpassing numbers charted by J. Cole’s KOD, Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods, and Migos’ Culture II, to say the least.
Beerbongs & Bentleys is evidence of Malone’s golden touch, one that the top-selling rapper plans to extend to the establishment of his very own record label. “He’s seen the music business inside out and now he wants to start his label,” Malone’s manager, Dre London, told Billboard. “We’re going to do it how we been doing it from the beginning, and obviously a distributor is going to come along. Let the bidding begin.”
Imprints aside, Malone also intends to transcend music videos to try his hand in film production, as per London. “Post has a movie idea right now and he and well-known writers are going to get together and write it,” London said. “I’ve been begging him to play a role in it because he’s good at acting. I think I’ve just managed to twist his arm enough to play a role — it might come in disguise, or something where we find out it’s him afterwards. We want to do stuff on television, but he wants to do his own stuff, stuff that we own, where a part of that comes from our vision, our creation. Nothing corny, stuff that just fits his brand and his character.”
Malone fans will indubitably have their popcorn ready when it comes time for the artist to make his big screen debut, but for now, champions of Malone’s work can check out his latest single, produced in conjunction with Tiësto and Dzeko, Jackie Chan.
