Hi guys, welcome to findyoursounds !
The massively skilled act Futuristic Polar Bears continue to impress with their beautifully crafted melodies and shimmering electronic beats. We caught up with them to hear about how they work together, and what we can expect in the near future.
- What was the inspiration for finally starting your own imprint, CMMD Records?
We wanted to have a platform where we could music out we enjoyed making and playing without and guidelines or boundaries. We think a lot of labels now go for the safe option and don’t take risks on new and different styles, so the idea was to just release music we like to play. The great thing is as well we’ve invited a lot of our friends to come and join us for some exciting collabs that will be happening over the 1st 6 releases.
- With having your own label, does that mean a lot more Futuristic Polar Bears music is on the way?
Yes, there’s plenty to come. We have been accused by our fans of not releasing enough over the past few years and its as frustrating for us as it is them when releases get tied up with red tape and taken out of your hands waiting on release dates. Our aim with CMMD is 1 release per month that will feature us on it in 1 way or another and we can’t wait to get the 1st one out in late July.
- Do you have any upcoming collaborations that you can tell us about?
We have so many new exciting projects to tell you about. We have been back in the studio with our “Smash The House” brothers Wolfpack and have 2 HUGE tracks with them that Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have been supporting! We also have a brand-new track with MATTN and Olly James forthcoming on Smash The House that has been predominant in our sets the past 3-4 months. Dimi and Mike have been hammering that too and we’re really excited for everybody else to hear it.
- Who would be one non-electronic artist that you would be a dream collaboration for you guys?
WOW what a question, we’re going to pick 1 each as we can’t decide together haha. Luke – for me would have to be Sir Paul McCartney, I’ve been a fan of his since I was a child when my mum used to take me to his concerts and we still go now when he tours. He has been a pioneer of music since the 60s and he still keeps releasing quality now. Rhys – I’m loving First Aid Kit at the moment, the girls are incredible and their new album “Ruins” is beautifully written and produced. Fran – Red Hot Chilli Peppers as I’ve always loved their music and would love to hang out with them in the studio, I bet they’ve got some funny stories to tell!
- What was the creative process in working with Yves V like for your new single Running Wild?
It was really cool to work with Yves, we’ve known each other for a while and was great to finally get in the studio with him. We started bouncing ideas around with him over 2 years ago and road tested many versions of the track before we finally decided on this one. Yves was instrumental on getting PollyAnna on board and she delivered an incredible vocal that brought the whole track to life. I remember the 1st time we played it in LA at the start of the year and the crowd went crazy, so we knew we were onto something special!
- What has been your favourite place that you’ve been fortunate enough to travel to as DJs?
We’re very lucky to get to travel all over the world, to experience and witness some of the things we have, have made us truly blessed. However, this question we’ve decided to rate on who has the best food and for that we have to give to South Korea which we’ve been incredibly fortunate to visit 5-6 times. Seoul is an such an amazing city and the food we’ve had there has been out of this world. Our personal favourites are obviously the bibimbap with all the kimchee but also their seafood bibimbap and our new favourite is spicy Korean Beef soup which is called Yukaejang. Definitely recommend if you ever go!
- Who are some rising talents in the dance music scene to keep an eye on in the coming months?
Ok we’re going to pick some different ones as we love all kinds of music. Rising talents in our style you have to check out if you haven’t Rave Radio, we absolutely love these guys and they are going all the way to the top! We’re working on a track with them at the minute. Outside of our genre we’re loving Junolarc who’s working a lot with Erick Morillo, his productions are incredible and finally Exit 11 who’s got some cool releases coming out on Armada, Subliminal and Glasgow Underground later in the year so watch out for those!
