If you thought you knew Sofi Tukker, think again. The electro-pop duo took fans by surprise in their latest video for “Benadryl,” as they explore their untapped vulnerability in a new, softer sound.
Director Phillip Lopez― now a frequent collaborator after directing the video for “Baby I’m A Queen” earlier this year― took charge of the project, zeroing in on mystical jungle scenes and raw, intimate moments from members Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern.
The enchanting visual meshes perfectly with the duo’s signature jungle pop sound, with a dance floor ready beat and bold vocals. Dubbed a “cryptic breakup song,” “Benadryl” represents a new chapter in Sofi Tukker’s evolution as an artist, but by no means does it sound foreign. The track fits in perfectly with the rest of the duo’s groundbreaking debut album Treehouse.
On the track, the band said, “Being in a relationship that you shouldn’t really be in anymore is a lot like taking a Benadryl: it puts you in a kind of distracted, dreamlike stupor in which it’s hard to focus. This song is about getting out of that Benadryl-Like trance.”
The duo hits the states in a North American tour next month. For the full list of dates, see here.
