Throughout this year Australian artist Akurei has brought forth two impressive singles, ‘Stockholm’ and ‘Hollow’, which not only have garnered significant attention globally but also served as the first glimpses of his highly anticipated sophomore ep, “September”.
Today the “September” ep is being released to the world and it includes two previously unheard singles in the focus track ‘Quarter Tank Full’ and ‘Clockwork’ which round out the four-track release full of stunning R&B/electronic goodness.
‘Stockholm’ (music video):
“‘September’ is a collection of songs I wrote abroad in September of last year, and a soundtrack to a quarter life crisis. All of the initial song writing was done over a few cities across Europe in Hostels, Airbnb’s and living rooms. The exciting thing for me was returning home with the songs and coming back to them and seeing them develop and grow as I pulled them apart and rebuilt them. I did a lot more production on this EP compared to August, with a little help from Maxwell (Golden Vessel) on Stockholm and Quarter Tank Full.”
The focus track of the EP, ‘Quarter Tank Full’ sees Akurei once again team up with long-time collaborator Golden Vessel on production duties, and through a subtle build with the alluring guitars combining with soothing vocal tones depicts some of the thoughts of home that were going through Akurei’s travels during this time.
“I wrote Quarter Tank Full in London in a friend’s living room. Lyrically, it’s about the daily walk into Clapham Common, and the things I had on my mind during these walks – mainly wanting to reconcile with someone back home.”
‘September’ is available everywhere now via Spotify and Apple Music, and if you missed it recently be sure to check out the Maxwell Byrne (aka Golden Vessel) shot & directed video below for recent single ‘Stockholm’.
