We are pleased to do this new Q&A interview with Michelle Kash.
She spoke on her up-coming shows, her life process and new hit called “Personal Jesus”.
FYS : Who inspired you to make music?
Michelle Kash : I’ve been completely inspired by the women in punk rock like Patti Smith, Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde. Their artistry spoke with authority and they were doing things no one had done before. I was also inspired by the greats like Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin.
FYS : Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Michelle Kash : There are so many! If I had to I would choose Radiohead. What they have done in the span of their career is phenomenal. They have broken barriers of sound and technology. To collaborate with them would be a dream.
FYS : Where have you performed? What are your favourite and least favourite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
Michelle Kash : I have performed at Whiskey a Go Go, Hotel Cafe, The Mint, Bar Lubitch, Silverlake Lounge, and other venues around LA. Playing at the Whiskey was definitely a moment for me, considering who else had been on that stage. I love the intimacy at Bar Lubitsch and it was my first LA show. It definitely was a roller coaster ride of emotions. To be honest, even the most divey of bars was a great experience for me.
There are no least favorites but I have had performances that I put behind me because of my own emotional state. Lol.
Right now I’m planning some release shows. Stay tuned on @michellekashmusic for upcoming shows.

FYS : How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
Michelle Kash : The internet blew the music business open. And our lives. Lol. Everything is at our fingertips. This is an amazing advancement but I think our attention spans are shorter and we are always looking for the next big/interesting/flashiest thing. I’ve been taking technology breaks and reading this great book called 24/6 on the importance of screen fasts.
FYS : What is your favourite song to perform?
Michelle Kash : Right now my favorite song to perform is my new song Lions. I feel so connected to it, I feel this sensuality and this capturing of a moment. I just feel completely alive when I sing it.
FYS : Which famous musicians do you admire?
Michelle Kash : Aside from the greats I mentioned earlier, I love Florence and the Machine, Fiona Apple, Camilla Cabello, Lana del Ray, and Billie Eilish.
FYS : If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Michelle Kash : I’ve had a really great experience in this industry. At times though, I think the industry can be super focused on branding and want to put you in a box.
Being an artist can be complex and fluid and I feel like there is room for us to be more.
FYS : What’s next for you?
Michelle Kash : To write and record more songs, play more shows, go on tour and collaborate with other artists. I would love to continue to grow as a performer and be as vulnerable and authentic as possible.
FYS : What is one message you would give to your fans?
Michelle Kash : That they are not alone. No matter how bad things can seem, there is always hope, there is always a way out.
FYS : Thank you so much for taking the time to read this interview with such an inspiring woman!
