‘In This Dark Time’ leads with a solemn hum of downbeat bass, stark guitars and pensive vocals, before building with upbeat electronics as Aime’s thoughtful lyricism shines a glimmer of hope and optimism for the future.
Regarding the single Aime says, “‘In This Dark Time’ is about being stuck in a difficult phase, desiring a rebirth, and turning to love to bring a new start. The song has a melancholic yet driven feeling, which for me invokes a sense of nostalgia, despair, and still, a hope for the future. I wrote and recorded the track recently at home during the on-going Covid-19 crisis. It is a reflection on these trying times where everyone is isolated, prompted towards inner considerations and facing existential fears.”
‘In This Dark Time’ follows the release of Aime’s debut single ‘What’s Up With The World?’ last month. The subtle alt-pop of ‘What’s Up With The World’ played as Aime’s meditation on the chaotic world we currently live in, and the power of love within it, reflecting strength in solidarity during a time where many feel a sense of isolation, numbness and anxiety.
Aime Simone’s character is both unusual and complex, dictated by a life that has experienced great highs, the deepest lows and the great challenges he has faced for the past 10 years. These have stemmed from a difficult childhood which led Aime to develop symptoms of PTSD, leading to many clinic stays in an attempt to heal, yet his inner demons ultimately led to a tragic suicide attempt.
What came from this greatest low actually helped create a change in his character, and after a chance encounter at a show of Pete Doherty, of whom Aime was a huge fan, blossomed a great friendship with the Libertines frontman. Pete helped Aime get out of his darkest place and what was seen within Aime was a miraculous reanimation of his life.
It opened doors for Aime to achieve previously unimaginable highs in his life, from leading him to become part of the fashion elite everywhere from LA to Paris and in-between, to sharing the stage with The Libertines as a young artist who had just started to write songs, while also experiencing the joys of fatherhood at a young age.
This is where we find Aime Simone today. His music reflects the separations of his disparate life and influences, pulling from his love of indie, his involvement in the Berlin techno scene, while also inspired by the likes of Lil Peep, Grimes and Kanye West, resulting in an exciting amalgamation of genres to curate his unique sound.
FURTHER INFORMATION ON AIME SIMONE
As a young teenager, Aime began to experience symptoms of PTSD from childhood trauma as a result of falling victim to bullying. His PTSD symptoms turned into anorexia and related physical injuries and operations. This led to multiple stays at clinics in an attempt to heal.
Aime spent the duration of his healing writing poetry in a journal. As a music lover and songwriter, during a stay at the clinic in 2012, Aime got permission to attend a Pete Doherty show at Paris’ Bus Palladium, of who he was a big fan.
He took the journal along to the show with the intention of giving it to Pete. Aime had no idea how he was going to get the journal to Pete and so mid-set took to throwing it onstage, accidentally hitting Pete on the face. Pete in turn began reading excerpts to the sold out crowd. Aime screams for Pete’s guitar in a vein hope of some exchange, but was instead pulled onstage and given the guitar to play.
This was Aime’s first ever performance in front of a crowd, and one that thankfully ended in applause – something quite extraordinary for a stranger onstage at a Pete Doherty show. Aime was instructed to stay and invited backstage after, what ensued was a year of intense songwriting sessions at the Libertines frontman’s apartment.
From this bizarre first encounter blossomed a very precious friendship, which saw Pete help Aime out of his darkest time while also mentoring Aime in his artistic development and eventually to him opening for Pete at his shows.
It also opened doors to the fashion world, where he had a successful career modelling. It led him to travel the world for three years, featuring highlights including Hedi Slimane’s 2013 Saint Laurent campaign, which included Aime opening the catwalk in Paris.
In 2017 Aime moved to Berlin and immediately fell in love with the hedonistic city. He was once again surrounded by likeminded people and became heavily inspired by the iconic techno scene.
His music evolved as he expanded his skills with electronic elements, experimenting with 909 and 808 drum machines, to the point where he was again performing live and throwing his own events. It led to Aime being awarded the revered artist residency at the Night Embassy last year, and he recently paired his music and fashion skills again to create an artistic video campaign for WEEKDAY.
In 2020 Aime Simone presents his considered musical direction, inspired by his worldly travels and looking towards the future. He is currently working on his debut album, which marks the beginning of an important new journey for Aime.
