Channel French Touch on new track ‘It’s Not Over’ out now via Island Records
Fast rising musician / songwriting / production duo PICARD BROTHERS (Clément and Maxime) channel the spirit of French Touch on effervescent new single ‘It’s Not Over’ out now through Island Records. The pair explain: “’It’s Not Over’ is our vision on 2020 French house music! It’s a sound we’re trying to develop on our project that is due to come later this year”. Drawing on a myriad of influences from Jazz, funk, old school house, pop and disco, the brothers combine slick production methods with real instruments as evident in their previous releases ‘Won’t Let Go’ and ‘Running From My Life’, which garnered support from tastemaker press like Complex and Earmilk, including BBC Radio1 support from Toddla T, Rickie, Melvin & Charlie and Diplo. “It’s tricky.” they say when asked to describe their own sound. “Working on so many different projects with artists, we always think: what would make sense for them? So now we’ve asked ourselves the same question.”
The brothers pay homage to those who came before them, toying with a classic formula that works for the masses. “We think we owe it to a past era.” they say. “But it’s not a basic tribute – it’s combined with another thing: feeling.” The French duo laid down the gauntlet with a series of celebrated remixes for the likes Beck, Robyn, Flume and David Spinelli;firmly cementing their names as international producers and songwriters, playing pivotal parts in the creation of records by Beyoncé, Diplo, Mark Ronson and Madonna. Having first entered the public consciousness almost by chance, after coming across a twitter post by renowned DJ Diplo, calling for French DJs. They sent over some of their songs and, a week later, the two French brothers came face to face with one of the biggest DJs in the world. He loved their music, and the duo soon became part of his core production crew.
The pair then found themselves as key ingredients in the creation of a number of huge hits, chiefly ‘Electricity’ by Silk City and Dua Lipa, which they co-wrote with Diplo and Mark Ronson. Their extraordinary working relationship with Ronson grew into co-writing eight of the songs on his Late Night Feelings LP, including smash single ‘Nothing Breaks Like A Heart’.
Picard Brothers are set to continue their reign of 2020 with a clutch of shapeshifting electronic pop tracks to be released over the course of the year, firmly securing them as one of the year’s most exciting innovators.
