The release follows a succession of buzzy singles, “From Me, The Moon”, “Wavvy” and “The Girls Before Me”, which has positioned the LA based artist as one of this year’s hot tips.

Produced by Doug Schadt whose own career was launched by Maggie Rogers’ “Alaska”, “Reds” smooth jazzy chord stabs and rippling psych pop melodies displays an exciting new aesthetic. Lav calls the track “a seductive and melancholy tune I whipped up after reflecting on romance in my adolescence. Dreamy and idealistic, without acknowledging the reality of an eventual expiration on the relationship.”

It’s the combination of her exciting pop music and her open and frank persona that has united Paris Jackson, Billie Eilish and Finneas with the three hundred thousand others who regularly check in on Lav’s life through Tik Tok, Instagram and OnlyFans

The 22-year-old garnered an impressive following through her online presence before the pandemic put a hold on publicity and expression with social media a vital outlet for her ever since she developed agoraphobia in her teens.

She told Notion: “I think my place in social media has always been kind of chaotic and strange. To some people I’m still the girl making edgy jokes on Twitter, to some I’m the over-sharer on TikTok, to some I’m an artist, and to some people, I’m still an OnlyFans model. I think my place on the internet is so important. A woman with a documented past trying to make it in the industry? Not super heard of, and I think my generation is the first to navigate that.”

Eilish’s part in Lav’s story initially came about when the young star named Lav’s first song “From Me, The Moon” as one of two songs she wishes she’d written during a CBS interview, before playing it on her Beats1 show ‘Me & Dad Radio’ and sharing Lav across socials.

She’s not alone either. Second single “Wavvy” hit twenty Spotify playlists in the first day and
Lav’s become a frontrunner on industry-wide watchlists, having drawn consistent praise and support from FADER, Nylon, NME, Notion, Dork, The Line of Best Fit, NPR, Dazed, The Face and many others.

Though Lav may ruminate on herself as an over-sharer, her growing legion of fans begs to differ. To them she is an extraordinary new musical talent with her heart on her sleeve. Citing recent influences as eclectic as Julie London, Jean Luc Godard, Ariel Pink, Brad Stank, The Marias and 70’s disco, her debut EP will be her biggest statement yet.

“Reds” is the first taste of Lav’s debut EP due February 2021 via Color Study.
