Indie newcomer Charli Adams shares powerful, stripped-back version of The 1975’s apocalyptic ‘I Like America & America Likes Me’, arriving one week ahead of the US election on October 28th via Color Study (Lav, Haux, Rosie Carney).
Taking a quick break from rolling out debut album ‘Bullseye’ (set for release early 2021), Adams’ passionate cover (accompanied by homemade visuals) follows widespread acclaim from key press including The Fader, Billboard and The Line Of Best Fit, and sees the Alabama native utilise her growing position within the alt-rock landscape to encourage fans to vote on November 3rd.
“I wanted to cover it in a way that matches the emotions I felt when I heard it for the first time”, explains the rising songwriter. “I cried to the trap beat of the original version because the lyrics are so devastating.
There should be no debate about the fact that America has a very serious mass shooting and gun problem. It only seems to be getting worse as our country divides further. Something has to change and I encourage you all to really think of the ways you can help bring it about.
It’s really inspiring and hopeful to see our younger generations fighting and standing up for what they believe in and I think bands like The 1975 help encourage that. With the election next week I wanted to release a song that could possibly open up some dialogue and get people out to VOTE”!
