Gorillaz – The Valley of the Pagans ft. Beck (Episode Eight)

Following the release of their unconventional Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez project, Gorillaz have released yet another fantastical visual asset to complement one of their latest deliveries, “The Valley of the Pagans.” Featuring alt-rock hero, Beck, the song pokes fun at the stereotypical Southern Californian mentality with a tonality that is both stylistically phony yet enticingly jovial.

The corresponding visual features the entire Gorillaz crew—2-D, Russel, Murdoc Niccals, and Noodle—driving around in the animated, Grand Theft Auto-inspired land of “Vinewood.” Noodle in the driver’s seat, boisterously piloting around the highways and avenues of the artificial take on Los Angeles (indistinguishable to that of GTA’Los Santos), crashing into other vehicles, taking part in police chases, all while 2D remains on a video call in the back seat with the fashionable, live-action Beck.

The album features an incredible range of talent on each of its 17 tracks from the likes of 6LACK, Goldlink, JPEGMAFIA, Sir Elton John, St. Vincent, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Much to fans’ delight, the innovative digital band has also just announced Song Machine Radio via Apple Music.

Gorillaz orchestrator, Damon Albarn, has hinted at multiple exciting projects in the works, including but not limited to a collaboration with indie megastars Tame Impala, as well as a potential Gorillaz motion picture.
