Since 2016, Family Piknik has teamed up with French ecologic crew Projet Ocean Rescue, championed by famous actor Guillaume Canet, with regular cleaning actions on southern beaches and a massive prevention campaign to eliminate plastics from our lives.
This video session is also the opportunity for the French festival to make a few announcements for the upcoming summer. While the Covid situation is still uncertain in France, with a blurry perspective, the Family Piknik team remain optimistic and believe they’ll have green light to run the festival on 7-8th of August.
« We are aware this is not granted but we expect our government to give us the green light for summer open-air events with reduced capacity. » admits Tom POOKS. “We still have this stupid « seated-only » philosophy to erase. Then, we know we’re able to run a safe event with 5000 attendees. It’s been one year we’ve worked on sanitary measures and technological tools to match with the government’s expectations. We now just need the go ! »
Family Piknik organized a big poll in February and collected more than 2500 answers from its fan base. Answers clearly showed 80% of festival attendees wouldn’t take part if they had to remain seated during the festival. Negative tests, tracking and masks seemed to be accepted by a very large % and this poll also pointed out the fact that French party people would go abroad or organise illegal parties if there were no festivals in France this summer.
10th edition of the festival is to be held on August 7-8th but Family Piknik announces during this video that there will be other events to compensate the small capacity due to Covid.
« Because of last year ticket reports, we needed to find a way to enlarge our capacity through other events, especially since we had to resize the festival and production costs » says Ludovic Rambaud, in charge of the festival’s communication. « That’s why we had the idea of splitting the festival in 5 outdoor events, from July to October ».
Of course, this schedule is still subject to a better situation with the COVID pandemic in France during the upcoming months, but here’s the plan for Family Piknik in 2021 :
• July 18th opening sunday
• August 7-8th with most of the 2020 postponed headliners (line-up TBC)
• September 18th
• October 9th closing with Boris Brejcha (Arènes de Béziers) Expecting for good news from the French government, which already promised a reopening for terraces and cultural locations by mid-May, the Family Piknik team remains optimistic and is totally supported by the new elected team at Montpellier city hall.
« The video session we’ve shot in this amazing location is the first step of a great collaboration with Montpellier city hall’s new team. We feel like being supported and respected, which was not so obvious through these past years. It gives us a strong motivation to face with this terrible Covid situation and come back stronger as soon as possible. We can’t wait to party in real ! » says TOM POOKS.
