Though it may not seem like it at first glance, being at home and off the road has its advantages when looking at it from a creative perspective. Without the peer pressure of following musical trends and bending your sound to the hype of the day, artists are free to explore avenues they wouldn’t have otherwise. BRKLYN took that opportunity to embrace the guitar-driven music of their roots and head into a whole new musical direction, and that change in sound has culminated in a record full of genre-bending sex appeal: ‘Playboy’.
Immediately setting the tone with funky guitar licks, ‘Playboy’ sees the American DJ and producer duo drop their first release on Armada Music in 2021. Accommodating playful disco vibes and a high-on-life vocal duet through a summer-scented instrumental that lifts moods all around, this track is set to become everyone’s go-to track for when the sun starts shining.
“What we love about ‘Playboy’ is how much more there is to the record than may initially meet the ears”, BRKLYN explain. “The song is a satirical take on how we are occasionally perceived as artists pursuing a typical “playboy” lifestyle, when in reality we’re far from it. It’s a little self-deprecating, a little purposefully indecent, and most importantly a groovy-ass record that we hope people enjoy vibing to, regardless of how they interpret it.”
Consisting of Cameron Alexander and Cody Nadeau, BRKLYN are known for writing and producing records that enmesh a uniquely alternative sensibility with modern electronic sounds. Since breaking into the scene, they have collaborated on original songs with artists and writers including Autumn Rowe (Dua Lipa, Estelle), Jocelyn Alice and Caroline Kole, and have recorded official remixes for the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Sting, Judah & The Lion and Echosmith. Their music has soundtracks advertisements for Toyota, LAFC and The Sands Casino, and they regularly headline leading North American clubs such as Lavo, Omnia, The Grand and e11even nightclub.
