DESIGNED EXCLUSIVELY AS PART OF THEIR
‘NATIVELY DIGITAL: A CURATED NFT SALE’
Dutch visionary Don Diablo is set to auction his first piece at prestigious auction house Sotheby’s. The third digital art piece to come from the pioneering artist, ‘INFINITΞ FUTURΞ’ will be included in Sotheby’s online auction ‘Natively Digital: A Curated NFT Sale’ running from 3-10 June 2021.
Renowned for his inimitable creative concepts and futuristic aesthetic, Don has become renowned for creating crypto-artwork that bridges the gap between the physical and digital world, effortlessly combining his forward-thinking vision with a hint of nostalgia. Having made history with the previous sales of his GΞNΞSIS NFT – holographic 1 of 1 piece – and Destination Hexagonia’ – the world’s first ever full-length concert NFT, which sold within four minutes on esteemed digital art platform SuperRare for 600Ξ (current market value $2.1million USD), the sale of his new piece INFINITΞ FUTURΞ will see him raise the bar once again. Based on his GΞNΞSIS NFT – the 1 of 1 see through HEXAGRAM cabinet, designed exclusively for Sotheby’s, is set to revolutionise the future of art in a way that has never been done before. Once purchased, Don will be able to tap into the collector’s WiFi (if permitted) to continue to produce and stream art for as long as he lives, striking a unique connection between collector and artist for a truly infinite piece of art. INFINITΞ FUTURΞ will be the only exclusive physical piece in the upcoming auction.
Speaking about his piece Don explained “INFINITΞ FUTURΞ is a mixture between a digital art piece, a physical piece and a glimpse of the future. The digital part of this NFT is a mesmerizing visualization of an infinite loop showing an energy form trapped in a constantly evolving maze, symbolising the inevitable circle of life. The NFT is stored on a unique cartridge which can be inserted into a custom made one-of-one see through hologram cabinet. Once inserted it will bring your NFT to life, creating a unique piece of art which is sure to captivate the attention of anyone who lays eyes on it. But that’s not all…”
A highly curated NFT legacy auction, and indeed the first time a major auction house will bring a collection of leading NFT artists to auction, Don’s involvement is further testament to his outstanding contribution to the crypto-art world to date. One of just twenty-eight other artists selected, the Dutch star will be amongst other record-breaking artists, such as Pak, X-Copy and Mad Dog Jones. Described as a group show of the most cutting-edge artistic practices in the space, the online auction will feature historically important works such as ‘Quantum’- the world’s first ever known NFT, Cryptopunk #7523 – a very rare alien Cryptopunk, as well as the world’s first intelligent NFT (iNFT).
Speaking about the auction, Michael Bouhanna, Specialist, Head of Sale at Sotheby’s, commented: “Natively Digital: A Curated Sale will be the greatest occasion to educate our ‘’traditional’’ audience to the great artists and diverse talents that compose this new space. The multi-venue virtual and physical exhibitions are an ode to this new medium and demonstrate our strong support for this art expression.”
Having only made his official entrance into the NFT sphere in March this year, and already holding his a position in the top10 of the most valuable crypto art pieces in the world, with his upcoming collaboration with Sotheby’s, Don Diablo continues to cement his position as one of the space’s most innovative leaders.
