AMA//MIZU plays with shadowy textures and cavernous sub-bass on new EP

AMA//MIZU is the solo project of French-born, London-based Douglas Pisterman.AMA//MIZU is a feeling, a moment of uncertainty. Inspired by the escapist rhythm of electronic music and the vivid narratives of folk, between the loud flicker of a light and the overarching silence. A sliding world of shadowy textures, cavernous sub-bass and hauntingly melodic vocals.

After a much noted first EP released on SaS Recordings in 2018, which eventually led him to be included in Brownswood’s Future Bubblers program for 2021, AMA//MIZU went on to collaborate with Acid Washed under the moniker Mount Kismet on the album “Warmer Lanes”, released on Disco Halal in 2019. He also collaborated with Catalan artist Uma on her first EP “Bel.li” released on Slow Dance in 2020.

Always attempting to explore his inner melodies, AMA//MIZU created this beautiful new EP, One By One, as a natural follow up to his first release.  From the irresistible groove of title track One By One to the throbbing bass and atmospheric percussions of OB, AMA//MIZU uses his incredible production skills to play with codes and genres, sometimes experimenting with the Rn’B format on Patience, sometimes creating a new breed of minimalist pop on Sunspot.

Finding inspiration in such diverse music as those of Jon Bap, Lucrecia Dalt and Scott Walker, AMA//MIZU is defined by a desire to seek authentic and unusual sounds and it is from the confinement of his bedroom studio in South London, surrounded by urban settings, that the songs slowly take shape before being enhanced and deconstructed live with violin player Tim Gardner (Another Sky, Lucy Lu).
