Darin Epsilon & Galestian Team Up For Melodic Techno Mastery on the ‘RESET EP’

Full EP includes Remixes from Fur Coat, Marbs & Evan Casey

Heading into their 10th year as a family, the Desert Hearts group is as boisterous as ever in exploring the far reaches of the dance floor and sonic palettes with its sub label, Desert Hearts Black. Led in curation by co-founder Marbs, its 2022 goal is to offer a wider range of techno and house music for its growing audience.

Today, Feb 11, DHB has released the sensational RESET EP, featuring an original from producers Darin Epsilon & Galestian, plus remixes from Fur Coat and Marbs & Evan Casey. The 6+ minute track provides a thrilling embodiment of late night techno brimming with melodic sensibilities. The track opens with an alluring amalgam of sound – a crest of rave flares fire back-and-forth between rising melodies. The track conveys the excitement for the collective experience of returning from the pandemic to dance floors, as well as the labels direction in 2022.

Quote from Galestian:
“Darin and I decided to collaborate on a track while we were both in Berlin during the big lockdowns of 2020-2021. The track emerged from the pressures surrounding this new reality that we had to slowly get accustomed to. We started bouncing a few ideas back and forth, and this one stuck the best.”

Fur Coat, a Venezuelan DJ and producer based in Barcelona, offers up the first remix on the EP. His synth-laden rework conveys a more dreamy, 80’s-infused aesthetic than the original – the B-side in an inevitably all night dance off. DHB’s Marbs & Evan Casey join production minds on the final offering of the EP, providing a captivating, seductive techno rework that ends with hair-rising parallelism with the evocative eye-focused EP artwork (designed by Marbs).

Having grown up in Southern California with the infamous motley crew known as Desert Hearts, Marbs was primarily influenced by legends like Pink Floyd and Tool, while also listening to underground hip hop, reggae, and rock. Displaying a no holds barred love for all genres from an early age, this would lend to his fortuitous career as a DJ/Producer.

Over the last several years, Marbs and Evan Casey have helped grow the DH label subsidiary, Desert Hearts Black, into a respected platform for melodic strains of house and techno. The inaugural EP Torus – a collab from Marbs, Rinzen, Evan Casey – reached the #1 spot on Beatport’s Overall chart after its singles were supported by Deep Dish and many others. The label has already seen releases from Tim Engelhardt, Dance Spirit, Thugfucker, Arude, Anakim, Rinzen, and Lunar Plane.

For its first release of January, Desert Hearts Black label boss Marbs kicked things off with his new EP, Minds on the Run. The EP opens with a 7-minute club track, “Needed Time.” This anthem of the EP was written with peak hours in mind – accessing this golden hour energy with native american chants in the soundscape. A message of psychedelia is enthused by a rolling bassline and melodic risers as the track progresses. Hugs, champagne, and the feeling of making it through the night should remind listeners of the collective experience DH strives for. The track also represents a shift in focus for DHB in 2021 – as they plan to expand from melodic house and techno into more diverse sounds packed with attitude and groove.

They’ve continued to thrive through an otherwise tumultuous year for the industry, taking the Twitch world by storm and reaching tens of thousands of viewers weekly with their music.

Desert Hearts looks to celebrate 10 years this Spring, when Desert Hearts Festival moves into its new venue of Lake Perris, California. Minds on the Run previews the label’s excitement to return to festival, as well as a renewed focus to expand on its electronic offerings.
