Fast rising Taiwanese live music festival LUCFest returns for its 2020 instalment taking place in the historical coastal city of Tainan from 27th to 29th November and promises to deliver the only full capacity live music festival showcase in Asia during these extraordinary times, offering us the perfect respite we all need right now.

Featuring an astonishing array of over 60 new and established Taiwanese acts across 7 different stages around the city, where the main outdoor stage will accomodate an audience of 10,000 without social distancing measures. The line up includes hotly tipped indie-pop / shoe gaze outfit Sunset Rollercoaster, electro-pop trio Jade Eyes, psych-rock band I Mean Us, dreampop / shoegaze trio Huan Huan and left field-classical newcomers Go Go Machine Orchestra just to name a few. It is a phenomenal feat considering the current global climate.

LUCfest also combines a music industry and networking forum that aims to connect Asia with the international music community. This year’s 3 day event will present more than 10 showcase performances and 8 professional music forums will be organised during the festival. This will include panels, workshops and networking events featuring music artists, record companies, labels, festival curators and media.

Festival director (Ms) Weining Hung explains: “We feel extremely privileged that LUCfest can still happen physically in 2020, being probably the only full capacity physical showcase festival in Asia. This would not have been possible if not for the hard work and collaborative effort by the Taiwanese government and people that the current situation seems under control. For a country of 23 million, we had less than 500 cases in total and 7 deaths. As one of few countries holding a physical showcase music festival in 2020, LUCfest acts an important role for continually supporting an artist’s live career during the pandemic. Furthermore, we have put in a lot of effort to ensure a safe and unique experience for both artists and fans and aim to have all live performances, conferences and networking forums work according to schedule.”She goes on to add: “We have had to face many restrictions this year, with mask wearing compulsory for all indoor venues. Normally our line up would consist of a third of international acts and delegates flying in from around the world but it is not possible this year. However, we’ll be operating at full capacity with the main outdoor stage accommodating an audience of 10,000! There’s nothing better than the luck of still being able to bring live energy to an audience while people in many countries can only join a music show through their monitor. During these tough times, we’ll try our best to keep the music industry alive in a safe and interesting way.”

The ethos of LUCfest is designed to bring together different countries and musical styles. The festival is dedicated in providing a complete and diverse combination of Asian music, artist creativity and aesthetics. The event aims to engage the audience to deeply explore the rich energy of Taiwan’s independent music and to establish a platform for information and resource exchange between Asian and Western music markets, promoting and matching Taiwan’s artists to the international stage.
