Eric Prydz Returning to Cafe Mambo

Cafe Mambo

Eric Prydz already has a busy summer schedule planned. And on top of that, he’s now adding on a residency at the famous Cafe Mambo in Ibiza. Before these shows were announced, Prydz was already slated to be playing several festivals around Europe as well as at his weekly residency at Hi Ibiza.

To say Prydz has history with Cafe Mambo would be a massive understatement. He has been playing the Ibiza club for more than a decade and even has a famous set that was partially recorded back from 2006 that can be heard here.

In addition, Prydz even dedicated a track to the beloved club on his most recent album, ‘Opus,’ titled ‘Sunset at Cafe Mambo.” Fresh off his incredible visual experience, EPIC 5.0, Prydz is ready for a massive summer full of shows.

Cafe Mambo tweeted an announcement on Thursday regarding their pre-party that will run weekly every Tuesday starting next week. The tweet included a silhouette of a DJ that is clearly Prydz, with several people responding to the tweet agreeing.

HÏ IBIZA MAKES ITS MARK WITH A MONUMENTAL OPENING PARTY

Hï Ibiza, the brand new superclub by Ushuaïa Entertainment, opened its doors for the very first time on Sunday 28th May, welcoming thousands of eager party revellers to the most talked-about opening party of the season. Featuring an all-star cast of DJs, including Black Coffee, Luciano, Apollonia, Nic Fanciulli, Kölsch, the sold-out Opening Party offered lucky ticket holders an exclusive first look at the island’s latest nightlife institution.

The club formerly known as Space has been completely transformed, elevated to new heights, with a spectacular new look and the most advanced sound and technologies on the island. Every single aspect of Hï Ibiza, down to the smallest of details, has been designed with the dancer in mind, all in the aim of creating an unforgettable and mind-blowing party experience.

The Italianate design of the Theatre (Room 1) is transported into the future with its modernistic design and the phenomenal levels of production that Ushuaïa Entertainment is renowned for, including kinetic ceiling displays and mesmerizing LED screens, including an eye-catching ribbon twist descending from the roof to the stage. World-class artists including Luciano, Black Coffee, Kölsch, Matthias Tanzmann, Bedouin and local favourites Anna Tur and Paul Reynolds put the brand new, state-of-the-art sound system through its paces, making their mark on the latest chapter of Ibiza’s nightlife legacy.

Over in the Club (Room 2), formerly known as the Terrace, there’s a more intimate feel, with a low ceiling, dazzling lighting installations and the DJ booth at eye-level. This gave artists Apollonia, Joris Voorn, Nic Fanciulli, Andrea Oliva B2B Davide Squillace, Djebali, Raul Rodriguez B2B Prymate and Igor Marijuan the ideal platform to connect with the crowd, taking them on a musical journey throughout the night from sunset to sunrise, when natural sunlight streamed in through the windows, breathing new energy into the club and keeping the crowd dancing all the way until noon.

As well as the two main dancefloors, clubbers were also invited to discover several new spaces, including the Wild Corner (the unofficial Room 3), a unisex restroom complete with DJ booth, where colourful Ibiza collective Melon Bomb soundtracked the night with an eclectic selection of house party classics, and the Magic Garden, a stunning open-air space surrounded in greenery, with space to relax, socialise and take in the canopy of stars or the rising sun above. All this plus 2 miles of streamers, 86 lasers, 100 speakers, 300 lights, 1000kg of C02 and 5 million video pixels made for a truly memorable party experience.

Partygoers are in for yet more surprises throughout the season, as Hï Ibiza will completely transform for each and every residency with a bespoke production designed to heighten the experience of each party. The state-of-the-art-club will showcase the most exciting names in electronic music throughout the summer, from the biggest stars in the scene to the leading lights of the underground, continuing the island’s legacy as the party capital of the world.

Join Martin Garrix on Mondays as he brings his Multiply concept to the Theatre, joined by Thomas Jack & guests in the Club. Tuesdays will see superstar DJ Eric Prydz take control of The Theatre with Ibiza favourite Andrea Oliva & Friends hosting the Club. On Wednesdays, trance titan Armin van Buuren headlines the Theatre and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano host the Club. In The Dark rules Thursdays, with residents Joris Voorn, Kölsch, Luciano, Nic Fanciulli and Steve Lawler. Say a ‘Disco Hï’ to Glitterbox on Fridays and save Saturdays for Black Coffee’s debut Ibiza residency. Rounding off the week is Hï Sundays with regulars Afrojack, Hardwell, Oliver Heldens, Steve Angello and more. With all this, plus an amazing array of guest acts performing throughout the season, the stage is set for an incredible summer of music!

Underground Resistance accuse Armin van Buuren of plagiarism

armin-van-buuren-ur-techno

Renowned Detroit techno group Underground Resistance, famous for their anti-mainstream image, recently accused Armin van Buuren of copying their logo for his latest residency at Hï Ibiza, ‘U R.’

The group voiced their displeasure in emphatic fashion through their social media account, stating “Is there no shame? What happened to electronic creativity? What the fuck is it all about the money?? To ‘those who know’ MOVE TO CONDITION RED!! To those who steal culture, you have been warned.”

Label manager Cornelius Harris had some choice words for the situation as well. “There’s no excuse for this,” he says. “It’s lazy and irresponsible of the artist AND promoter. I’m all for folks having fun regardless of the style of music, but that can be done without trying to exploit the years of work that another artist has put in for your own benefit. Van Buuren offers no explanation for it, simply calling U R ‘my new concept’ and leaving it at that. Sorry man, no fucking way.”

Armin van Buuren spoke to FACT about the accusation of plagiarism, claiming to be unaware of any similarities between the two logos. He notes that, while he intends to continue using the “U R” residency name, he will be adjusting its symbol.

Read van Buuren’s full statement below:

“I would like to start off by saying how unfortunate and unpleasant this situation is for everyone involved. My team, the team of Hï/Ushuaïa and myself were not aware of the similarities between our logo and the logo of Underground Resistance.

“Originally, UR – the name of the new event through which I’ll perform in Ibiza every week – is derived from Universal Religion, an older but nonetheless known Armin van Buuren concept. The logo, which consists of a custom-made font and frame, was designed to conform with the Armin van Buuren brand.

“After careful deliberation, my team, the team of Hï/Ushuaïa and myself have decided to keep the name UR as it is and adjust the symbol. I trust that media, fans and Underground Resistance will be able to understand this decision.”

The all-star cast of house and techno names include Danish duo and VIVa MUSiC all-stars Anek, French super-trio Apollonia, who’ll also play the Hï Ibiza opening party, No. 19 boss Art Department, Peculiar party founder and Crosstown Rebels signee Bas Ibellini, Ibiza favourite Cassy, and the inimitable and always raucous Dirtybird Records founder Claude VonStroke.

Also lined up for the summer are Saved Records regular Lauren Lane and rising star Lauren Lo Sung, along with Mark Fanciulli and Patrick Topping, the Hot Creations hit maker who’s become a star in his own right over the last few years. Fellow Hot Creations don and Four Thirty Two boss Richy Ahmed will also play, along with hotly tipped UK tech house duo Solardo, who scored big with last year’s “Tribesmen,” and the one and only Skream, a man who never fails to get the party started. Completing the bill is wAFF, the Hot Creations star known for his lovably infectious energy and party-starter vibes behind the decks, and soulful London party crew Housekeeping.

With the five forward-thinking residents – Joris Voorn, Kölsch, Luciano, Nic Fanciulli and Steve Lawler – all performing regularly across the season, anticipation is high for season 1 of In The Dark. Hï Ibiza will act as a blank canvas with a bespoke production designed exclusively for this powerhouse lineup of residents to create something truly unique, as they assemble some of the most exciting names from across the underground spectrum.
