Hailing from Albano Laziale, Italy, the thought of working in the music industry seemed unreachable throughout the years for Alex Aureo, so he kept music up as a passion, and focused on tattooing.
Music was Alex Aureo’s first true love. In his teenage years, he learned how to play the electric guitar and sang in a punk band. “The feeling of playing music with them was the best feeling in the world,” Alex Aureo says. After he finished school, contemplating between writing songs, and loving to draw and paint, he decided to learn tattooing.
Alex Aureo opened a tattoo studio in the centre of Rome, by the Colosseum. And once he began to travel to the USA, he was exposed to many international and inspiring people and he began to dream bigger with these encounters that pushed him to expand his horizons.
After reaching the top of the tattooing business, and tattooing celebrities like Demi Lovato, The Chainsmokers, and Scooter Braun, Alex Aureo thought, “Why not try music again?” The limitations over time that paused his love for music suddenly vanished.
Last summer, Alex Aureo started writing music again. Singing helped him relax and focus while tattooing. After receiving positive feedback from people telling him he should showcase his talents, he started a TikTok account. His videos began to go viral, gaining over 2.6 million followers in less than a year; whereas he reached 400k followers with his tattooing in almost a decade.
The decision to start doing music again was cemented when he went to see Lewis Capaldi live, in Milan, Italy. He looked at him in awe for the entire set, thinking, “I want to do it too”. Alex Aureo is excited to see where this new road leads him. He has so much to say and cannot wait to share his message with the world. A message of personal growth. Of believing in yourself. Of creating your destiny. From a small town in Italy. To the world. From a different career to a dream. He wants to show people that everything is possible. This stripped-back version of ‘Swear to Defend’ embarks on a sonically immersive adventure that encapsulates the qualities of strength and determination. Focusing on delivering a stripped-back experience that amplifies the emotion and message within the lyrics, this track unveils a raw and authentic expression of Alex Aureo’s artistry.
Alex Aureo was inspired to write ‘Swear to Defend’ when he thought about love and how it’s about supporting one another. Then, he explored what love means to him. “It was searching for the right person, which seems to never arrive. But when it does it clears away all of the doubts. It helps you move past things and, with that person by your side, you can do anything,” he shares. At the end of the song, with an atmospheric nostalgic mood present, Alex Aureo writes about how losing someone you love is the hardest thing.
The intimate soundscape of the track features Alex Aureo’s voice and guitar. ‘Swear to Defend’ has a little ‘Hallelujah’ vibe to it, reminiscent of Lewis Capaldi, a little melancholy for the past, and a hopeful feeling for the future.
The stripped-down version of ‘Swear to Defend’ comes ahead of the built-up track that will be released in the future.
On the release, Alex Aureo comments, “It’s the perfect ‘wedding song’ to play on an altar when she is walking down the aisle. It’s a song about admitting to being imperfect and needing someone with us to support us. It uses the metaphors of nature to show the complexity of relationships and life (when a tree falls and blocks our way \ when a storm forms \ when the night comes). It’s swearing to protect someone. ‘Till the end.”
