Following the release of ‘Lemonade’ which saw three spins across BBC Radio 1 on ‘Future Artists’ and on the nationwide BBC Introducing show, the alt/pop electronic collective Dutchkid are back with new single ‘Sugar’ on Ultra Music. Marking single number two to be taken from their upcoming debut album also on Ultra Music, Dutchkid continue to turn heads with their unique brand of stylish electronic pop. Written in the unlikely location of an Airbnb in the Midlands along with renowned producer John Foyle (Gorillaz, Years & Years, Jai Paul), Dutchkid once again demonstrate the raw talent that so rightly earned them a BBC Introducing Best of 2020 accolade.

Over the past couple of years, the international collective that make up Dutchkid have been on an upward trajectory. Following praise from BBC Introducing, they kicked off the new year with more support in the form of a BBC Introducing ‘Record Of The Week’ for ‘Lemonade’ and a commendable 80,000 streams. Add this to the 8 million streams already clocked for previously acclaimed releases including ‘Flight’, ‘Youth’, ‘Howling’ and ‘Friends’, plus three sold out headline live shows; and it makes Dutchkid indisputable ones to watch.
Dutchkid are more than just a band. With songwriters, producers, film-makers and graphic designers as part of the group, Dutchkid create, record and produce their own music and art. Each of its five members brings a certain set of skills to the table to create something greater than the sum of its parts.
‘Sugar’ is another treat from Dutchkid. Their definitive style of wonky pop and electronica will be a welcome discovery for new listeners and returning fans alike. On the creation of new single, ‘Sugar’, Jordi van Dyk, (vocals, bass, songwriter and producer) said,
“We wrote ‘Sugar’ with our friend and producer John Foyle (Gorillaz, Years & Years, Jai Paul). We set up a portable studio in an Airbnb in the middle of England and over the course of a weekend we wrote ‘Sugar’. It’s based on a fictional character, imagining how to go about telling the person they’re in love with.”
Like all Dutchkid productions, ‘Sugar’ was built from the ground up. Layered with a warm synth bassline and drums with a rhythm all of their own, it has an irresistible groove and stands out from the pack.
The collective signed these latest singles and debut album to US powerhouse Ultra Music after fierce label interest following their arrival on the scene.
Translating that demand into a live setting, Dutchkid will be back performing to crowds by the end of 2021. At Oslo in Hackney, East London they’ll perform the new album for the first time to live audiences as UK events open up, post-pandemic.
Dutchkid are doing things differently and the signs are all there – it’s only a matter of time before this hugely talented collective break through in a big way.
