Amal Fashanu is delighted to announce the release of her debut single, Detty December.
The broadcaster, journalist, fashion designer and philanthropist, has flourished in every facet of her life. Whether that be founding The Justin Fashanu Foundation or developing the Black Heart Label, a clothing brand designed to promote activism through fashion.
Now turning her hand to music, on Detty December Amal seamlessly combines elements of Afro-pop, reggae and contemporary R&B.
The track is part of a four track EP, titled New Beginnings, and is the perfect illustration of Amal’s unique take on the Afrobeat genre. Inspired by her cultural heritage, Amal has embraced the alchemy of contemporary urban tempo, fusing this with an Afrobeat rhythm, punctuated beautifully by her hyptnotic Spanish and French poetic lyricism.
Detty December is accompanied by a music video shot in Accra, (Ghana) and tells the story of a broken hearted girl reclaiming her power after her man indulges in his Detty December and then tries to crawl back.
With the unveiling of Detty December and the release of her debut EP, New Beginnings later this year, Amal is determined to be the shape of Afrobeat to come. Propelling the genre beyond music, and placing it at the forefront of contemporary UK culture.
