Art-Pop Newcomer Geraldine Snell Releases New Double A-Side ‘Delightful (I Love You Song) / Limerence’

Renowned electronic-art-pop artist Geraldine Snell shares the mesmerising new double single ‘Delightful (I Love You Song) / Limerence’

Hailing from Keighley and now based in Hebden Bridge, the new double release marks her first collaboration with co-producer Richard Knight. Also offering a first taste of Snell’s upcoming album, overlove, both new tracks lead directly into one another creating one immersive sonic experience across the two singles. Capturing the yearning, restless and hypnotic creative aura that Geraldine Snell has become known for, ‘Delightful (I Love You Song)’ and ‘Limerence’ offer unique soundscapes of atmospheric swelling synths, intricate lo-fi beats and dappled guitar to create a pillowy backdrop for Geraldine’s stylistic melancholic, breathy vocal delivery.

Haunting, emotive and ethereal, Snell’s sound is comparable to the likes of Portishead, Bat For Lashes and early FKA Twigs, with influences of James Blake and Bonobo also showing through.

Collaborator on the new release Richard Knight, a data artist and co-producer of the double single, is a seasoned figure in the electronic music scene, with a unique techno-acousmatic hybrid vision that has garnered recognition from labels such as Beatnik Boulevard, Logistic Records, and Electronic Musik. Knight’s innovative approach to sound creation, blending organic and electronic elements, adds a distinctive flavour to Snell’s ethereal and mesmerising sound.

Speaking about the collaboration and the themes explored in “Delightful (I Love You Song) / Limerence,” Geraldine Snell shares, “This project is a sonic exploration of complex emotions around longing, loneliness, and love addiction. It delves into the struggle to stay afloat amidst dopaminergic highs and melodramatic lows, ever in pursuit of an unattainable connection, and the alienation of real relationships in the process.”

These themes are informed by Geraldine’s experimental art practice and project ‘overlove’, encompassing a book published by Dostoyevsky Wannabe (2018), web series, and original music. Indeed, the overlove theme tune provides the forthcoming album’s title track, which was honed through live composition performed on Resonance FM, Slade School of Fine Art, and San Mei Gallery (London).

The upcoming album ‘overlove’ which includes the two new singles has a much broader scope as Geraldine explains:

Limerence is a word I was made aware of in 2015 or so by a writer friend, who would hear of my romantic preoccupations and diagnose me accordingly. It describes a state beyond regular crush, lust, love and pair bonding that’s characterised by obsessive, intrusive thoughts about the object of one’s desire, and thrives on lack of reciprocation from them.

I was hurtled into a limerent obsession that occupied most of my attention and contributed to the collapse of my 8 year relationship. It was elevated or justified through my project overlove, which started as a series of unsent love letters to the object of my obsession. This developed into a book, published in 2018 by Dostoyevsky Wannabe, and a web series that I posted across 2018-9 and composed an original score for, and now also an upcoming album”

An all round creative possessing a masters’ degree in fine art, Snell’s highlights include films screened at Piccadilly Circus’ CIRCA takeover, London Short Film Festival, and Mascara Film Club, as well as exhibition commissions with Eston Arts Centre and Sheffield Doc Fest. Through touring, playing synth and sampler for band Haver, Snell has performed live at Earls’ Court’s Troubadour, Lancashire’s Beat-Herder, and France’s Caprices de Cabiron among others.

With support from BBC Introducing and shows across London and around Leeds, Snell has graced the stage at notable venues such as Spice of Life Soho, Katzpace London, and various festivals across the UK. Awarded funding for mentoring by Bradford Producing Hub, Geraldine is working alongside Launchpad Leeds for the upcoming release of her 2024 album ‘overlove’.
