Watch – ‘PXNK’

Known for her intricate synth work, Nyxen has carved a unique space for herself at the intersection of dance, indie, and pop music. A beautiful execution of Nyxen’s ambitious sound design, ‘PXNK’ is a skillful blend of lively arpeggiated basslines, sultry vocals, and groove-riddled melodies.

‘Pxnk’ follows the release of her recent dance-fused cut ‘Nightmare’ in 2020 and guitar-driven ‘Tunnels’ in 2021, Nyxen now welcomes us further into her world with the title track further stating, “Playing around with my Prophet, I got into a groove with an arp sound, which eventually became the first six seconds of Pxnk as you hear it now. “I immediately associated the sound [of Pxnk] with scores by John Carpenter, Daft Punk, Vangelis, and Don Davis, visualizing cyberpunk-styled scenes is not uncommon for me (big sci-fi fan).

She adds “The song is littered with rave stabs, static broadcasts and low arpeggiated bass lines to pull you deeper into that high tech, low life world. PXNK is a synth-packed reflection of disconnection from things you once knew and the people that tether you back.”

First emerging on the scene in 2015, Nyxen has used her revolutionary sound to amass millions of streams and garner a dedicated following. As one of Australia’s most revered multi-instrumentalists, Nyxen has had multiple songs added to Triple J rotation of early releases ‘Running’ and ‘In The City,’ and recent additions ‘Insomnia’ and ‘Red P Plates.’ A force within Australia’s music scene, Nyxen has sold out her own headline shows and supported the likes of Golden Features and Crooked Colours.

‘PXNK’ marks Nyxen’s first release eagerly anticipated debut album, PXNK. Exploring ‘80s influences and instrumentation for the creative direction of the record, Nyxen continues to forge a unique, refined sound. “The direction of the album all started with ‘PXNK’, I had a name, a sound, and a vision for the body of work I wanted to put forward and it feels very fitting to guide the listener into the album the way I was guided into writing it,” Nyxen says about the album. Weaving deep, emotive electronic foundations with indie sensibilities and universally relatable lyrics, her music leaves its mark on her listeners with each and every release.

Nyxen invites you along for an emotional ride on ‘PXNK’, available on all streaming platforms on Friday, April 28th, with US tour dates coming in 2022.
