Avalon Child releases new EP ‘The Tree’ via Playground

Avalon Child is the recently launched project from Hungarian producer Jay Lumen, an artist who has long been known in the underground for his precision take on house and techno. From tech house anthems like ‘Get Ready’ to his breakout techno releases on labels like Drumcode, Suara, and Octopus, and his ever-consistent work on his own Footwork Audio imprint, he has been at the top of his game for nearly 20 years. Alongside this, he has been a constant presence on the international club and festival circuit. Now he returns once again with the latest musical missive from his Avalon Child moniker, ahead of a release on Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep In Sound.

Opener ‘The Tree’ features the talented Sandra Bjurman, who brings seductive and wordless ad libs to a low-slung garage cover of the legendary ‘Hanging Tree’ song. The drums are dusty and bumpy, with a moody bassline and late-night energy in the synths, all making it a surefire floor filler. The superb ‘Rock It’ brings more slinky garage vibes with a Minimal energy but an infectious low end, clipped vocals and neon stabs that bring a soulful edge. Last but not least, ‘Home’ is a forward-thinking, deep-tech cut with a sleek electronic edge, hooky vocal R&B samples, and a potent low end that drives the party onwards.

Avalon Child’s ‘The Tree’ EP comes on Playground on June 20th 2025
