Awir Leon returns with the thoughtful, experimental and beautiful new single ‘A Million Other Days’ offering another exciting look at his upcoming album Love You, Drink Water.
Carving his own space somewhere between electronica, alternative hip hop and indie, the French, now Amsterdam based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer possesses a unique sound. Topped with philosophical, soulful and emotionally raw lyricism, the solo artist showcase a multifaceted, striking and impactful identity as an artist.
Awir Leon has composed the soundtracks to almost all of choreographer Amala Dianor’s pieces for the last ten years. For the new single ‘A Million Other Days, the processus is reversed and Amala Dianor wrote a short dance solo for Awir on his own song. Exploring the spaces between desperation, fighting and letting go, the french songwriter and producer here completes his song with an added physical layer, bringing us ever closer to him.
Often likened to James Blake, Frank Ocean, Jai Paul or Thom Yorke, ‘A Million Other Days’ showcases a tender side to Awir’s sound, layering emotive processed vocals over gentle instrumentation to create an otherworldly, complex and undeniably rich and moving track.
Speaking about the single, Awir Leon explains: “A Million Other Days is probably my most honest song, the kind of song you almost don’t want to release because it’s too intimate. When it’s out it’s definitely gonna feel like I’m naked in the streets. But I think it’s good, we all have these moments of extreme emotion, extreme sadness, regrets and hopes in the same burst, that’s what this song is. It was also written and recorded this way, one take, no overdub, no edits, it’s a pure burst.”
Not only a musician but also a talented dancer, Awir toured for a decade with several international dance companies, such as Emanuel Gat Dance, before feeling the need to focus more on music. Having now toured Europe and picked up a whole host of acclaim from the likes of NOWNESS, Notion and The House Magazine, gaining over 1 million streams on Spotify alone, Awir Leon’s new material once again pushes boundaries, showcasing his musical maturity and cementing his place as an exciting, interesting up and comer.
