BAD SOUNDS share energetic new single ‘RELEIF RAIN’

Harking back to their roots with a dose of their feel good indie-pop, Bad Sounds have pushed their original sound into a new territory, and it’s intoxicating.

Relief Rain is a drop of escapism born from a time, more hard hitting than it may sound.

Explaining more, the band shared: “On face value it’s an up beat, feel-good pop song, but the subject matter is pretty heavy.

For us it’s about feeling completely overwhelmed and really needing a break from everything. Something that is a continuing personal struggle for both of us as individuals. Especially now that a lot of the world is opening back up after the pandemic, and a lot of those old pressures we’d forgotten about are coming back with a vengeance.”

Upcoming EP ‘Escaping From A Violent Time Vol.II’, is a development of the bands original sound and a continuation from Vol.I released in Jan 2021, which featured tracks ‘Sympathetic Vibrations’ and ‘Permanent’. This new record see’s Bad Sounds embrace the art of collaboration. “In Vol.II we have some friends with us featuring on tracks, and we really feel like we’re getting more comfortable with who we are as Bad Sounds.”

The Bristol-based band cut their teeth in the collaboration world earlier this year with their gorgeous single ‘Move Into Me that featured New Zealand’s critically-acclaimed two piece duo, BROODS. The track was warmly met with a tastemaker mark of approval, with press support from the likes of DIY, Dork and The Line of Best Fit, whilst at radio Jack Saunders, Annie Mac and Greg James at Radio 1 each playing the song, and Shaun Keavney made the song his Tune of The Week on 6 Music

More recently came ‘You Move Backwards’ an immersive offering featuring neo-soul marvel Ruti. Sharing more on the process the band said: “We kept writing songs that we thought were really special and really beautiful, and then we’d trample all over that beauty by trying to sing on them ourselves. But it was a HUGE game changer for us when we worked with BROODS on ‘Move Into Me’.

All of a sudden we realised that we could work with other artists we love, and really elevate these songs, turning them into something we always hoped they could be. Then when we met Ruti, we were already fans of hers, but weren’t prepared for how she would transform ‘You Move Backwards’ into something wayyyy better than what we could have imagined.”

Although features on their own music is a new concept for Bad Sounds, they’ve already created a hub for collaboration in their new purpose built  studio in the Cotswolds, where they’ve had their finger on the pulse collaborating with lots of important new acts coming through, including Arlo Parks (co-writing and producing track ‘Bluish’ off her debut album) and others like Rose Gray, Miso Extra, Devon, Max Pope, VC Pines, SOFY and LCYTN.

Bad Sounds are the Merrett brothers, Callum & Ewan, who together are a hybrid of interests & influences that have merged together to create a sound in which you hear elements comprising loose recordstore genres like hip-hop, rock, electronica, and traditional pop, they cite Gorillaz, Beck, Smashing Pumpkins, Madonna and A Tribe Called Quest as makers of some of their favourite records.
