Netherlands native TANTRON sets it off with a blistering label debut alongside London MC PVC (short for Purple Velvet Curtains). “Reckoning” is a vocal-driven drum and bass track with sinister undertones and an uncontrollable energy. PVC’s razor-sharp flows hit the sweet spot between swag-fueled and self-aware. Heavenly choir samples and orchestral elements are contrasted against growling low-end leads, shrieking synth stabs, modulating laser-laced textures, and choppy fills, all percolating in masterful polarity. Straight off the blocks, the electricity is palpable from this high-octane anthem.
Belgian producer Polar Youth shows her darker side with the aptly titled “Rage.” Straying from the melodic sound she’s become notorious for crafting throughout the years, the low-end maven is inverting the magnetic field with her menacing 140 banger. Stripped-back yet chunky, the track fuses thick walls of bass, crisp drum programming, and hypnotic vocals into a speaker-flexing heater. Dark tones build tension before exploding into the blistering drops, which are loaded with killer sound design and enough bottom-end to bring the walls crumbling down.
Polar Youth opens up about the unique direction of the track, saying, “I was starting to feel boxed in by overly melodic writing. Around that time, I was listening to a lot of UKG and dubstep mash-ups, and the energy in those records hit harder than anything I’d been making. ‘Rage’ came from wanting to strip things back and focus purely on impact: heavy bass, tension, and attitude, without overthinking the prettiness.”
Joining forces for “MURDA,” BRAINWAVEZ and OMAS prove to be a deadly combination. Opening with a classic trap synth melody and draggy drums, the track carries an instantly inviting yet off-kilter energy. The drops hit like an action-packed shoot-out scene, one soundtracked by murderous vocal samples, gun shots, sirens, bloodthirsty bass, snappy drums, and wild switch-ups. Deep wubs slide underneath the brain-melting melodics for its furious finale. This collaboration is nothing short of homicidal.
BRAINWAVEZ breaks down the aim of the collaboration, saying, “I wanted this track to feel heavy but still carry a strong melodic emotion. Oliver [OMAS] really brought that melodic side to life, and together, we found a balance that just clicked!”
OMAS shares his excitement around the release, saying, “Bassrush has been a label I’ve dreamed of releasing with for a long time and I’m so happy that ‘MURDA’ found the perfect home.”
Indian producer WCKiD showcases his control over buoyant and gritty lower frequencies with “BACK 2.” Dubstep and trap collide as filthy sound design is interwoven with attention-grabbing vocal chops and wild drums. The track has all the intensity and nastiness of a classic dubstep stomper, but adds in thumping, repeating kicks and a fresh bounce. His contribution is a proper twist on bassline that picks apart the genre just for the love of the game.
WCKiD keeps it simple when introducing the track, saying, “Here’s my take on UK bass.”
Spanish producer Lexed unites with fellow countrymen Jrace & ALBERT WHITE for their neuro-tinged collaboration, “Breaking Laws.” Sinister strings and slow, spaced hi-hats create a cinematic introduction that deepens with powerful horns. Punchy kicks and UK rap vocals shift the energy and make way for the ripping drum and bass onslaught. Nasty basslines meld with metallic drums, violent lasers, blistering fills, and mind-bending sound design. “Breaking Laws” is a blistering thrill ride riddled with danger and intrigue throughout.
Jrace & Albert White break down the inspiration behind the collaboration, saying, “‘Breaking Laws’ emerged from the search for something original, attempting to blend sounds from different styles while always maintaining the essence that represents us.”
“Tear Warp” is an ever-evolving epic from Wolfie and Ascension. Spanning a wide array of genres, emotions, and styles, it’s truly unlike anything else. The opening is haunting, bolstering a melancholic vocal that sulks beautifully atop pensive piano keys and understated choir pads. Glitchy fills open a new portal of sound as energetic arpeggiations and thick drums transition into the brawny dubstep onslaught. Just when it seems like “Tear Warp” can be figured out, Wolfie and Ascension switch the sound into a trapped-out, horn-driven climax scored by a maniacal opera lead.
Wolfie is ecstatic to be joining the Bassrush family with the release, saying, “Releasing ‘Tear Warp’ on Bassrush is a real full-circle moment for me. Zomboy, Wooli, and so many legends on this label shaped the way I make music. Being a part of that family now is unreal. I’m so excited to finally share this one.”
Known for her ethereal bass music, Bay Area-based Vyhara proves she possesses the balancing skills of a slacklining champ with “Beat.” The spacey intro pairs the tranquil sounds of birds chirping with alluring world music elements and mesmeric vocal chops that induce a trance-like state. The restrained opening provides a stark contrast against the massive, bass-heavy drops. Despite the dichotomy, Vyhara manages to keep the vibes rolling into a chaotic zen—a sacred space where hard-hitting and chill feel indistinguishable—a feat that only enhances the sense of weightless bliss throughout.
Vyhara speaks to the duality that drives her creation, stating, “The idea for this track was to have a lot of contrast between a spacey intro and a heavier bassline. I like making and listening to music that can work at a show or party, but also driving in the car or just listening at home.”
The mask-wearing duo Proxxxy continues their mission to ensure riddim retains its weighty, muscular physique via the aptly titled “TOUGH GUYS.” The track packs their signature unfiltered sound: hard-hitting, mysterious, and made to dominate. Reverbating drums and noir tones shapeshift into rough and rugged dubstep swings that stay true to the subgenre’s intrinsic beliefs. Minimalistic and akin to a bed of nails, “TOUGH GUYS” is an all-out assault designed to wreck dancefloors and start mosh pits from start to finish.
The anonymous duo reveals why this record was the right choice for the compilation: “This track captures a sound and feeling we’ve been gravitating toward lately, and it felt like the right time to put it out.”
Las Vegas producer Untitld does not skimp out on the womps with his deceptively low-key named number, “Mellow Yellow.” The laidback title and effortlessly smooth opening give the illusion of unending calmness, however, raw DJ scratching and underlying wobbles hint at what actually lies ahead. Descending into the darkness, the experimental artist flexes his mastery over low-end with a transforming bassline that just keeps getting better with time. Methodically layering in vocal samples, sirens, risers, and subtle sonic shifts, Untitld proves that well-crafted minimalist bass music hits different.
Helping to sign things off, Dallas producer Sodef kicks down the doors into a world where distortion meets elegance. “Gasoline” is fueled by ominous soundscapes, hypnotic beeps, fierce growls, and a plethora of brutish bass. Its unique use of tension and space presents dubstep with a dignified perspective, while retaining all the unruly energy and impact you’d expect from the streets. Blurring the lines between cinematic and club-ready, “Gasoline” will surely set dancefloors of all sizes ablaze.
Predictions and fortune-reading aside, ‘The Prophecy: Volume 13’ is another surefire installment of the Bassrush Records longstanding series, a 10-track vision into its endless pursuit to showcase the best that bass music has to offer.
