A slick summer anthem embodying the fast-paced punch of NYC culture, BAYLI describes, “‘SICK!’ is really about being hyper fresh and fly, inspired by NY Fashion Week at its finest with a mix of street style.”
On the collaboration, ILoveMakonnen adds, “Bayli sent me sick and I was like yeah I can do it! Bet! Did it and now we are here!”
Both proudly Black and queer, the collaboration falls in June, shining awareness on both Black Music Month and Pride Month. An outspoken queer advocate, BAYLI recently debuted a collaboration with Tiffany & Co. for their Pride 2021 campaign “Stand For Love” here (see 0:23). ILoveMakonnen has also courageously forged a space for hip-hop/rap artists to live their truth amidst industry pushback, a message he detailed in a recent piece with Varietyhere.
Her first release of 2021, “SICK!” is a precursor to BAYLI’s forthcoming debut EP, stories from new york, due out summer 2021. BAYLI first debuted as a solo artist with a 2018 mixtape and later followed in 2020 with tracks such as “boys lie” and “sushi for breakfast,” which have picked up love from outlets like PAPER, DIY, Wonderland, etc.
With her debut EP in the pipeline, BAYLI is full speed ahead in 2021 propelled by a powerful message and refined vision. BAYLI notes, “My overall intention is to make an impact in pop music and culture showing the diversity that truly exists in Black culture. I think my music will show alternative Black art in many different shapes and forms. I am also really concerned with the environment and how pop culture, through music and fashion, can have a bigger impact on saving our planet.”
About BAYLI
BAYLI first made waves in 2016 as part of The Skins, a band she formed with her siblings and friends. The band drew praise from outlets like Rolling Stone, The FADER, & Complex and they embarked on a massive tour with DNCE before BAYLI decided to go solo.
BAYLI’s infectious melodies and signature songwriting were cultivated under the mentorship of music guru Rick Rubin, catapulting her to become an in-demand songwriter under Warner Chappell, working with artists like Justin Tranter, Take A Daytrip, Jesse McCartney, Baby Goth, Blu DeTiger, Bea Miller, etc. She has also landed opportunities in film/TV sync and creative collaborations with brands like Bose, HBO, ABC, Nickelodeon, AT&T, Entourage: The Movie, Grown-ish, Barbie, The Brooklyn Nets + many more.
A proud School of Rock alum, BAYLI’s musical output is as equally pop as it is R&B, rock, & punk, all delivered with a fierce stylish edge and unabashed confidence. Hailing from Brooklyn, NYC is her lifeblood, inspiring her fearless take on what it means to be an artist in the 21st century. BAYLI details, “Everyone in Brooklyn comes from such diverse backgrounds and ways of life. I’m so privileged and feel so fortunate to be surrounded by people who AREN’T like me! I’ve learned so much from being around new cultures and that almost always reflects in my music. From the Brooklyn rap scene to classical musicians living here and sharing their techniques, I’ve learned a lot living here.”
