BBC RADIO 1’S HEAD OF MUSIC QUITS TO JOIN SPOTIFY

George Ergatoudis will take over Spotify’s music curation division in the UK

When opportunity knocks, you better answer it. George Ergatoudis has probably heard this saying before and he’s been given the opportunity to join one of the music industry’s most progressive companies in Spotify. He released a statement where he explains how much BBC Radio 1 has grown over the years and that he’s ready to take the next step by being a part of the company of the future.

“It’s been a privilege to have played a key part in the journey of the world’s greatest music radio station over the last 10 years.

“In that time, Radio 1 has successfully moved into a new era of visual and shareable content, helping to drive new young audiences to the BBC,” states Ergatoudis.

“Now I’m ready for the next chapter in my career as I take on responsibility for leading Spotify’s in-house music curation strategy and content programming for the UK. I can’t wait to get started.”

As the head of music at BBC Radio 1, Ergatoudis has seen many trends come and go. It’s easy to see how Spotify has revolutionized the music industry and he’s leaving his old post at BBC Radio 1 for a bright future at Spotify.
