Borderline Toxic have released their infectious new single, Blood Sucking Beauty Queen.
The single illustrates the band’s ability to write an eclectic, diverse range of music as they effortlessly combine crunching riffs with a boisterous pop-inspired chorus. An explosive example of Borderlines Toxic’s modern take on rock music, the track is further elevated by the prowling Kerry Glass whose rich, explosive vocal is characterised by her satisfying Scottish lilt.
While funky, loud and raucous, the band demonstrate their nuance through the track’s lyricism, exploring themes of empowerment. Kerry drew on her own life experiences where she was expected to please people and fit into a stereotype in order to keep others happy. Sticking a middle finger up to societies obsession of judging others, the lyrics transition into imploring people, regardless of gender, sexuality, colour or creed, to live life, embrace your own individuality and take pleasure in your own fulfilment.
These virtues are exhibited in the flamboyant video which depicts a vast array of alternative performers, dancers and actors of all backgrounds strutting their stuff, essentially asking society the question: “What is sexy?”.
Formed in the summer of 2020, Borderline Toxic didn’t have the most traditional beginnings as a new band. Having been introduced by Level 42, and former Amy Winehouse and Chaka Khan drummer Pete Ray Biggin, singer Kerry Glass and drummer/producer Henrik Fossum immediately hit off due to a shared love of hard-hitting rock. With the pandemic raging and members dotted around the world, the threesome set about writing remotely. The result of their collaboration was the creation of Blood Sucking Beauty Queen.
With Quentin Roelandt (guitar) and Jack Rowe (bass) added to the line-up, Borderline Toxic were officially born and ready to rock the world. Their chemistry was immediate as they wowed a live audience for the first time at Camden’s Dublin Castle, showcasing their ability to seamlessly translate their sound to stage.
Blood Sucking Beauty Queen is out now via Forest Cat Productions.
