Bowden Releases Debut Album ‘Glacier’

“An immersive listen from a band who know exactly what they’re doing” – The Last Mixed Tape

In an era where fleeting trends often overshadow enduring substance, Cork’s own Bowden operates with a different compass. They are a real band. One that exists between the cracks, not contrived in the lab of some record label exec on the fifth floor.

Their debut album, Glacier, set for release next Friday, May 23rd, isn’t a product of calculated hype or a shortcut to the spotlight. Instead, it’s the quietly powerful result of four years dedicated to the craft, a collection of songs forged in the introspective quiet of a post-pandemic world. For Bowden, the art comes first, a guiding principle that shapes their journey and allows their music to speak with an unvarnished truth.

Glacier is a sonic landscape built from moments of uncertainty and the persistent human need for connection. It’s a testament to the slow burn of creativity, where ideas gestate and evolve with intention. This isn’t a band chasing a momentary peak; Glacier feels like the foundation of something built to last.

Produced with a discerning ear by Christian Best (Mick Flannery, O Emperor), the album showcases Bowden’s commitment to depth and nuance. The considered additions of Matthew Berrill on saxophone and Dylan Howe on trumpet enrich their sound, adding layers of texture that serve the emotional core of each track. From the previously released glimpses of their artistry in “Peel,” “Everyone,” “Be Your Own God,” and the urgent pulse of “Faster,” Glacier reveals a band unafraid to explore the complexities of human experience with a sincerity that resonates. Focus track “Build A Bridge” exemplifies this most.

Reflecting on their journey, Bowden shares a sentiment that underscores their ethos:

I guess this is imposter syndrome. To have an album to our name doesn’t feel real. I mean obviously we lived through the entire process but yet… It was all there, the nervousness of being in a real studio, with a guy who actually knows what he’s doing, the excitement that we might be able to do it, the disappointment that it didn’t always come out like it sounded in our heads, the craic, the tea, the waiting, the revisions, the revisions of the revisions, the doubt, the pride. Will anyone but us even listen to it. Does it matter?

Hailing from Cork, Bowden has steadily carved out a space for their atmospheric alt-rock, drawing comparisons to artists who have also prioritised artistic integrity over fleeting fame. Their live shows offer a genuine connection, a space where the music speaks directly to the listener. With early support and growing recognition within the Irish music scene, Bowden embodies the spirit of a band patiently building a legacy on the strength of their art. Glacier isn’t just a debut; it’s an introduction to a band with a steadfast vision.

Amateur raincoats

Power outages

Backup failures

Blown eardrums

Art distractions

Piano ghosts

Work from home

Fridge hums

Whispered calls

Where is?..

How does??

Through that wall.

Again you reckon

Hardly second?

What’s the test

I guess it rests.
