Turner flips the ever-fresh vocal stylings and diverse instrumentation of the original into a euphoric club-ready weapon, equally primed for the ethereal late night chaos of the dancefloor and the hedonistic 5am sunrise session. “Joe’s name has been cropping up the last year or so to us” say BOYOCA, keeping a keen eye on Turner’s rise as a multi-instrumentalist and in-demand producer, “his work was recommended to us and as soon as we listened, we knew it was the perfect choice to have Joe’s style rework the track to slam in the club”. It’s the perfect balance, with Turner “very excited to get stuck into the remix – we’d spoken about some ideas beforehand and it felt right to give the remix a heavier club feel, so we could play it in our DJ sets”.
This stellar new remix follows the launch of BOYOCA’s outstanding debut EP (released October 15), a multi-faceted journey into a plethora of realms within the electronic spectrum, breezing across the atmospheric, garage-influenced ‘Elasticity’and soulful bubbler ‘Bamboo Mask’, both of which have served as slick introductions to the duo’s distinctive, organic-drenched brand of toe-tapping, expressive music. With the former supported by Faze Magazine and the latter by Apple Music, support is already flooding in for the pairing. Closing out the EP, the shuffling, heads-down percs of ‘In The District’ bring a tribal, weaponised aura to proceedings, whilst lead track ‘He’s A Fool’ puts the icing on the cake with masterful, pitched vocal sampling and inspired synthetic work.
BOYOCA is the moniker of Birmingham (UK) based multi-instrumentalists Tim Boyce and Lewis Carr, crafting transformative electronic music with a tangible organic nature, combining real-world sounds with electronic beats and grooves. Equally influenced by the dynamics of dancefloor music and the human quality of live instrumentation, they tread the line between the decks and the guitars, the dance floor and stage, the electronic and the organic. The duo’s production skills have already been enlisted by British music pioneers Morcheeba for a remix of their powerful downtempo single ‘Killed Our Love’, reshaping the original into a softened 2-step cut, sounding out the soulful electronica rhythms found within.
Diving deeper into their unique sound, BOYOCA explain; “the ‘green house’ sound is about distilling everything that’s dear to us in music – big beats, real instrumentation, songwriting and dance rhythms.”
