Ghanaian popstar Camidoh announces himself as a major global talent with debut album Love Is The Answer (L.I.T.A), out 2nd June on Crux Global / Moves Recordings.
Several years in the making, ‘Love Is The Answer ( L.I.T.A )’ is an 15-track odyssey of Afropop delights overflowing with Camidoh’s vibrant charisma and vocal ingenuity. A love letter to his native Ghana, it features fellow homegrown talents Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Kwesi Arthur, M.Anifest and Amaarae.
The album opens with the sunny harmonies and poignant lyricism of ‘Pain’, before ‘Brown Skin Girl’ eases into a strutting bass-heavy dancehall rhythm. Latest single ‘Beautiful’ combines its intoxicating central hook with lush guitar licks and plinking pianos, while ‘Available’ is an enchanting love song for the social media age. Previous single ‘Kaba’ finds Camidoh in festive spirits, switching between his native tongue Ewe and English over a typically smooth and feelgood beat. The LP’s second half maintains the exuberant energy, with highlights including the blissful piano-led melodies of ‘Ready’ and the transcendent saxophones of ‘Save My Soul’. Finally, the album ends with ‘Sugarcane’ and its remix, a smash hit and TikTok sensation that has amassed over 106 million streams and sums up Camidoh’s joyful approach to music.
A sonically adventurous affair, the LP also showcases some of Africa’s finest talents, with memorable features from esteemed artists including Magixx, Amaarae, Sarkodie, Manifest, Mayorkun, King Promise and Darko. Summarising the uplifting theme of the album, Camidoh says: “I’ve come to realise that there is great power in vulnerability. When all is said and done, love is the answer.”
Noted for his cloying vocals, transporting lyrics and majestic stage performance, Camidoh is among an outstanding crop of young innovators leading Ghana’s pop revival. Already amassing a number of 3Music Awards and Ghana Music Awards nominations, he is an artist firmly in the ascendancy. The 2022 remix for his single ‘Sugarcane’, featuring King Promise, Mayorkun and Darko, became one of the biggest Afrobeats releases of last year, racking up 106 million streams, over 2.4 million TikTok creations due to the #sugarcanechallenge and over 1.5 billion views making its way to #3 in the Official UK Afrobeats charts.
Away from music, Camidoh has also launched his charity initiative ‘Save The Kids With Camidoh’ in Accra, to help raise funds to help single mothers who are unable to pay hospital bills, much like his own mother during his upbringing. This is an artist using his platform to help others wherever possible.
