My father introduced me to poetry at an early age and served England in both the Royal Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He would tell me stories of England’s greatest sporting triumph in 1966. This song is my tribute to him, and to every player who has proudly worn the Three Lions crest.”

His father, Ronald Matheson, served in the British Royal Navy for 11 years aboard HMS St. George and HMS Mauritius during WWII and the Korean War, while his brother, Andrew Matheson, ignited the raw fury of 1970’s London punk rock as frontman of the Hollywood Brats.
