“Bad News” is the epiphany that everybody goes through when they realise they are in a toxic relationship. Charlotte recalls “This song was written after a rough breakup, from a relationship that was simply – Bad News. It was the moment I realised, even though I was heartbroken – we weren’t right for each other and were a recipe for disaster. This song is me in the throws of the upset and angry stage of a breakup.

Together, along with the northern soulstress, co-writer Carys Selvey & producer Couros have crafted the ultimate breakup ballad that is bound to hit home. Whilst it’s easy to blame one person for a relationship failing, Charlotte holds her hands up as she sings “we’re both sad, we’re both screwed, we’re both bad, bad news”.

Along with the release of “Bad News”, is the announcement that OC’s forthcoming full-length album, Here Comes Trouble, will be released on 15th October 2021. This is Charlotte’s most honest and vulnerable work to date – this is Charlotte broken and on the floor, mending the shattered pieces of her heart and forced to face her inner demons. You won’t get any more real than this.

Speaking specifically about the album, Charlotte reminisces “In the space of two months, everything that had once been, was no longer. My heart had been broken in a way I could never have imagined. This resulted in me partying too much, not sleeping, hardly eating and smoking like a chimney. Self destruct mode: activated. I felt lost in space, and nobody could bring me back to earth. Through this dark time, I was forced to acknowledge things about myself, and sometimes not in the most positive way. This is me self-deprecating, this is me standing up for myself, this is me madly in love, horrifically heartbroken, angry. This is me praying to a god I don’t believe in about a life I couldn’t lead because I had nothing left to lose. I could not have made this album without the love and support I received from my producer, Couros, and the small bunch of co-writers I collaborated with on some of these songs. They picked both me and this album from the depths of darkness and helped me expel the demons into my work.

And with restrictions carefully easing, Charlotte has been announced as a headline performer for The Soho House Group’Soho Rising series – alongside the likes of GriffHolly Humberstone and Jehlani Blackman – at Babington House on Sunday 20th June 2021. She will also be announcing a run of shows in London, Berlin and Paris around the release of the album in October.

In November 2013, she debuted with Colour My Heart, an EP of four dramatic yet restrained songs recorded with Tim Anderson (Solange, Sia, Banks). Complementary remixes from Moodymann and Yarin Lidor followed shortly thereafter. After she moved to Harvest/Polydor, the EPs Strange and Burning followed in 2014 and 2015. In 2017, O’Connor returned with her debut full-length album, Careless People.
