Chicago-based producer Adam Pecho joins DJ Hyperactive’s 4trk with the five-track ‘Babylonia’ EP, further cementing his position within the city’s underground techno landscape. DJing for over a decade and releasing music under his own name since 2024, Pecho draws on ambient, drone, and abstract traditions, layering meticulously crafted elements into immersive, detail-rich sound worlds. His debut EP, Manufacture, topped the Beatport charts, and while running his Pechno Records imprint, he has released a series of collaborative albums called ‘The Cookout’, making him a consistent and forward-thinking presence in contemporary techno.
Starting with ‘Click Bait’, Pecho’s ‘Babylonia’ EP opens in dark, stripped-back territory, delivering a dry, menacing dub groove steeped in back-room tension and shadowy atmosphere. ‘Devious Entity’ sharpens the focus with faster, slicker techno drums, Millsian minimal synth lines searching across the stereo field as cosmic energy charges the groove. ‘Basic Neutralizer’ pushes into futuristic terrain, where automated rhythms and writhing sine waves lock into high-pressure, immersive motion. ‘Stone Prism’ maintains momentum with frictionless propulsion, its drums leaning and gliding as it delivers elevated, precise deep techno. Closing track ‘Kaihu’ slows the pulse, unfolding a suspenseful ambience and subtle rhythmic suggestion to map out an eerie, uncertain landscape, with the listener firmly at its centre.
A key figure in Chicago’s underground techno community, Adam Pecho has built a reputation for productions that balance functional dancefloor intent with intricate sound design. Whether through his own label or collaborative projects, his work consistently explores the space between hypnotic grooves and abstract atmospheres, contributing a distinct, forward-looking voice to the global techno continuum.
