Propelled by a driving bass groove, upbeat soulful hooks, alt-rock guitars and joyful exuberance, ‘Simulator’ feels like the perfect soundtrack to Spring 2022, inviting listeners to live in the moment and leave behind “our hyperconnected, superficial world,” lead singer Austin Steele says. “‘Simulator’ is a wake-up call to escape the clutches of modern technology, our naive critique on society. Despite providing a temporary escape, technology is shaping a world in which being present in the moment is being lost in modern life,” he concludes.

‘Simulator’ follows on the release of recent singles, including the soul-inflected ‘Mirrors’ and propulsive ‘Pressure’, which served as an introduction to the band’s texturally rich and well-crafted sound. Inspired by the surroundings of a remote California desert ranch, which served as the setting for the band’s songwriting retreat, bassist Aaron Lund crafted a driving bass line for ‘Simulator’ that laid the foundation for Austin Steele’s soulful chants, created by combining different registers of his voice – from screaming to falsetto and everything in-between. Directed by the band’s guitarist Ryan Amyot, most of the music video accompanying the single consists of footage of the band performing live, which was edited and altered with visual effects. Ryan offers; “I wanted to capture the energy of our live performance, while also playing into the message of the song in terms of simulating a digital realm.”

Formed in San Diego, CA, Creature Canyon encapsulates the fiery energy of indie/alternative rock with waves of modern psychedelia. The band consists of members Austin Steele (vocals, guitar), Ryan Amyot (guitar), Kyle Victoria (drums), Aaron Lund (bass), and Luc Fralic (keyboards, percussion). Known for their thrilling and captivating live performances, Creature Canyon has received nods from Billboard, Paste, and many other industry tastemakers. Building upon their prior EPs ‘Life I Know’ and ‘Did You Want That’, the band has made a considerable leap forward in their songwriting journey, seeking to tackle themes that deal with the emotional conflicts of love and loss through a journey of self-discovery. To capture their vision for this new era of music for the band, Creature Canyon enlisted the virtuosity of producer Christian Lum (Private Island), recording engineer Mike Schuppan (Foster The People, Young the Giant), mixing engineer Jordon Silva (Vance Joy, The Avett Brothers), and mastering engineer Brian Lucey (Cage The Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys).
