It follows their captivating tour support performances for Puma Blue’s East Coast dates.
Orlando-via-San Diego outfit CRUZA have unveiled their defining new EP Dog Daze, out 10th December on Juicebox Recordings (UK) and Terrible Records (US).
The follow-up to 2020 debut album Cult Research, the seven-track Dog Daze EP opens with the sparse, spaced-out guitar vibes of ‘BigBet’, a track that very much sets the tone. The EP also features CRUZA’s three most recent singles, starting with the romance-tinged ‘Indeed’, a charmingly lo-fi jam that has been supported by the late Virgil Abloh and Jamz Supernova on their respective Worldwide FM and BBC Radio 1Xtra shows. Then there is ‘GrooveTherapy’, which sees the group deftly exploring the conflicting emotions attached to a toxic relationship through the lens of impassioned vocal melodies and downbeat production; followed by the Abloh-supported ‘It’s You’ which is propelled by wistful melodies and passionate vocals. ‘Malibu’, the EP’s closing track, ensures Dog Daze finishes up with understated melancholic grooves. Elsewhere, the title track features the record’s most psychedelic moments and comes with a lo-fi music visual that stars the full band and friends through a fish eye lens which quickly progresses to a trippy car journey that matches the essence of the song. Meanwhile, ‘Brewster’ is its most upbeat record and the focus track of the project today.
Speaking on the EP, Adam from the band says, “Our latest EP Dog Daze is a direct reflection of the current struggles of our daily lives. Whether it’s dealing with relationships, depression, financial struggles or just the everyday frustrations of life, this project represents all of those in just one body of work and we think anyone who hears it will be able to find a piece of themselves in it.”
The release of Dog Daze follows on from a support tour with Puma Blue which has seen the band receive recognition and praise from artists including Ravyn Lenae, Smino and Monte Booker.
Consisting of Adam (vocals), Charity Joy Brown (guitar), and AJ Roth (bass and percussion), CRUZA blend elements of R&B with psychedelic and alternative rock. Releasing music since 2018, it was last year’s single ‘Illusion Of Forever’ that first propelled them into public consciousness, with the group continuing to grow at a steady rate in the months since.
A band that grows with every release, Dog Daze is CRUZA’s most accomplished body of work to date.
