Visionary producer, label owner and DJ James Connolly is known as L-Vis 1990 but also Dance System, and he is in a fine run of form right now. He is fresh off the back of remixing Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada, recently dropped a well-received debut album and took the front cover of a prominent UK dance music magazine as well as locking in a one-month residency on BBC Radio 1. Here he tackles a Skint Records classic by Midfield General which first dropped in 1999 on the legendary Generalisation album. Back then it was remixed by David Clarke but it has not been touched since.
Dance System brings an array of influences to this new and contemporary remix, which is at heart a low-slung house tune with infectious drums. A nebulous cloud of futuristic pads and wispy synths bring cosmic energy as the snaking lead works you into a state of hypnosis. Next to plenty of late-night charm and neon colour, the subtle vocal stabs bring soul and make this one a perfectly stylish and emotive groove.
This is a superb signature sound from the on-form Dance System.
