Seamlessly mixing RnB and dancehall with a pop twist, ‘Outside’ shows off Monifa’s prowess as a vocalist and melody-maker. A melange of sunny harmonies and sublime synths, the track is a joyful break for freedom, documenting Monifa’s thoughts of longing during lockdown.
“‘Outside’ was written during the Covid 19 pandemic”, Monifa says. “As an entertainer I longed for the days I could be outside on the road in Jamaica, performing, partying and just living life. I literally couldn’t go outside and the times I would be able to were short lived because of the curfew. ‘Outside’ was me dreaming of being outside and going back to that sense of normality, or on the other hand you could say I was being rebellious with my pen. It was literally a manifestation, visualising the time I would be back outside enjoying life.”
Having signed a distribution deal with Empire via Creed Music Global in 2021, Monifa has been working on a seven-track EP Eve, which drops 24th Nov with ‘Outside’ as the lead single. The EP has a mix of styles which underpin Monifa’s approach, ranging from full dancehall bangers to more poppy tracks, all boasting her impressively strong RnB vocals.
