Detroit techno icon DJ Minx is concluding a special Pride Month, in special fashion, dropping a new techno heater, Purse First, in time to rock dancefloors this summer. The release comes after Minx made the decision to speak her truth and come out at the start of Pride. Revenues generated from the track will be donated to the Ruth Ellis Center in Detroit.

Minx’s instagram post on June 2, was an empowering moment, as she shared her truth publicly, acknowledging that:
‘Sometimes we struggle with showing our true identity, because we’re either told it’s wrong, feel uncomfortable sharing, or we just hide it for other reasons.’
The response to her post was pure positivity, and drew words of encouragement and love from DJs in the community including, DJ Holographic, Midland, Honey Dijon, The Blessed Madonna and more. Minx was asked to play Paxahau’s first ever Pride party in Detroit.
Minx continued the month as a face of Spotify’s Pride campaign, curating a Pride hub playlist of Detroit LGBTQIA+ artists and allies, and appearing on a mural on the side of the Ruth Ellis Center.
Of her new release Purse First, she said:
“This track is a nod to Bob the Drag Queen, who was the winner on a season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. He spoke about always being elegant in any situation, and you should always enter a room “purse first”. I’m all about being classy, so I thought the title was fitting. To all my LGBTQ friends and fellow Queens, as we re-enter these nightclubs, let’s make it, purse first!’
