Watch on Twitch via Lost Resort TV – March 15, 12:30pm PT / 3:30pm ET

DJ Minx is a seminal figure in the history of dance music and Detroit, known as Detroit’s First Lady of Wax. She came of age behind the decks alongside peers and icons including Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson and Moodyman, and has served as a mentor for a new generation of Detroit talent, like DJ Holographic and Ash Lauryn.

In March Minx will celebrate her legacy and other icons of Detroit techno, with a curated line-up and live stream to honor the Motor City Underground Sound, produced in partnership with Lost Resort, and presented by Document Journal and Ray Ban. Streams will take place at one of Detroit’s most beloved electronic music venues, Marble Bar, and donations raised during the stream will support Detroit’s Little Bit Project charity

Minx’s live stream charts the lineage of electronic music’s history in Detroit, starting with one of its undisputed forebears, a man responsible for inventing the genre of techno music in the mid-80s, Kevin Saunderson. Carl Craig, arguably the most prominent member of the second wave of Detroit artists, is a Grammy nominated artist who has torn down cultural barriers to present his vision of techno, most recently concluding a five year project with the Dia Beacon Museum with the Party/After Party exhibit.

The stream will also present the vision of Detroit’s First Generation DJs, with Delano Smith, whose impact pre-dates techno music. Those dancing to Smith’s sets in the late 70s and early 80s would go on to shape the sound of Detroit, and rave culture around the world. DJ Holographic represents a new generation of Detroit, a fusion of influences amassed from the city’s rich musical history, her sets flit between house beats, passionate R&B, and unreserved nu-disco.

DJ Minx was inspired to start her DJ career after visiting Detroit’s famed Music Institute in 1989.  She has been a central figure in Detroit’s history ever since, from her residency at Motor Club, to her long-running radio show in the city, and her seminal performances at the Movement Festival since 2000. Minx’s Women on Wax collective and label has sought to champion Black female artists since its inception in 1996. Minx is a recipient of the Spirit of Detroit award for her contributions to the city’s cultural landscape, and was named as one of the 20 Women who Shaped Dance Music by Mixmag.

DJ Minx Selects: Techno Icons of Motor City’s Underground Sound will be presented by Document Journal and Ray Ban. Accompanying the stream will be a series of exclusive editorial pieces and portraits from Document Journal chronicling the stories of these pioneering artists and Detroit’s rich musical history. The stream is produced and hosted by INFAMY Media and Lost Resort, the Twitch channel that is home to Rave The Vote, The Newsfloor and Schmoozing With Soul Clap.

Earlier this year, Minx released Blind Amerikkka, a searing deep house cut that sent a powerful message about the current state of America. She has forthcoming releases on Berlin’s Tresor, Carl Craig’s Planet-E, New York’s He. She. They., and her own Women On Wax Recordings imprint.
