Dutch artist Lena Hessels continues to captivate with the release of her new single fast lights, out now.
Combining woozy synths with haunting piano tones and Lena’s hushed, impassioned vocal, fast lights is a sonically fragile yet uplifting song, taking the listener on a journey of reflection and self-discovery. Fans of the likes of Sylvan Esso and Zero 7 will feel at home here. Talking about the single, Lena explains, “lyrically this song is about having a fun weekend with your friends at a festival. Throughout the song the festival comes to an end and as you reach the outro, you’re in the car driving home and reflecting on the weekend, your life, growing up and how that all works. I think I’ve been thinking about that a lot recently. It’s not a sad song in any way, more like a moment of thought”. This is a subtle introduction to a new sense of vulnerability for Lena, showcasing her ability to create captivating minimalist pop that is irresistibly dreamy.
As the daughter of Terrie Hessels – guitarist of the avant-garde improv-punk band The Ex – Lena was introduced to life on the road at an early age. Lena has taken her time to find her own sound; fusing the experimental side of her family with her love of pop music. Lena has already received praise from the likes of Beats Per Minute, Killing Moon and She Makes Music, as well as being featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday NL, A Shot of Indie and Equal Netherlands playlists. to name a few.
fast lights is the second single to be taken from her upcoming sophomore EP then when will it, due for release on 13th July 2022. This is the second of a series of three EPs Lena plans to release, produced by Tender Blom (Pip Blom).
