After a brief hiatus, Ess_West is back with more south London feels for your ears with his first single of 2023 ‘Damn’, taken from his upcoming project I love you, still.
The artist/producer offers more of what you expect from his signature sound, blending UK rap and R&B with Britpop ballads to create something entirely different. ‘Damn’ is Ess at his best, reflecting on his love and pain through orange-tinted glasses and melodic late-night-drive tones. The single also comes with a stylish visualiser presented by True Noir Pictures; a haze of dreamy nighttime scenes as Ess roams around the streets of London.
With this as the first single/video from I love you, still, we can only welcome Ess back and wonder what next from this constantly evolving artist.
South London-raised artist Ess_West’s recent output draws inspiration from what many would consider disparate worlds of transatlantic rap and UK indie. He has honed an individual soundscape which he now implements in full force through his own music and visual experiences, with a string of further releases and production work in the pipeline. His previous single ‘You’, from his album of the same name released last year, received radio support from Kiss FM, BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra and Reprezent.
Reflecting on love and pain, ‘Damn’ is another stride forward for this ever-evolving artist, proving that Ess_West is one to watch on the UK rap scene.
