What inspired this release?
A couple of us had been in a bit of a funk for a while, and so we decided to invite all the fellas we knew over for what we called a “bro-down” (fantastic name, I know). That night really helped to lift all of our spirits, and we wanted to write a song about how having a good time with the boys can really make things better.
What’s something you always wanted to write a song about but never did?
There are countless things that we would love to write more songs about, girls, work, rent, etc. Just a matter of time before we do.
Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?
At one point, our producer said he had an idea for a piano part that would really fill out the final part of the song. He seemed really excited about it, so we agreed. When he got in the booth and opened up the grand piano, we expected him to start playing some incredible, sweeping melody that would bring everything together perfectly. Instead, he pressed the record button, and literally just hit the same key on the piano, over and over, roughly 97 times, until the song ended. The best part is that he was totally right. It makes the song WAY better
What’s you favorite thing to do besides music?
I think it’s safe to say that a passion of the three of us outside of music is exercise and fitness. Last year we ran a Spartan race together, and have come close a few times to mandating a pre-rehearsal band-run.
What’s a record or artist that shaped your creativity?
When we first started playing together, we were really inspired by classic acts like Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, and The Beatles. We were also REALLY into Weezer for a while. Around the time that we wrote this song, we were listening to a lot of more modern acts such as The Glorious Sons, Vulfpeck, and The Strokes
Who is an artist or band you look up to today?
As a band, we’ve really looked up to groups like Greta Van Fleet and the Glorious Sons, just because they have shown that new, young bands can still break into the rock world and make a big impression. We want to follow in their footsteps in a lot of ways
What excites you the most about what you do?
We are our own bosses. There is something so freeing about having something that is “yours”. And it’s also really exciting to be involved in the music community and to be inspired by the different sounds coming from the other bands we play shows with
