Fifi Rong has collaborated with the likes of Skepta (on his hugely successful UK No. 2, Mercury Prize-winning album Konnichiwa) as well as Tricky and Yello on their chart-topping albums Point and Toy, with further collaborations with Phaeleh and Emika. The songstress has racked up over 103 million plays around the world, with most of the support coming from Chinese platforms. Fifi has also received previous support from The Guardian, The Times, NME, FACT Mag, The Irish Times, Dancing Astronaut, Earmilk, Wonderland Mag, CLASH Mag, Complex, BlackBook Mag, FLAUNT, XLR8R, MIXMAG Asia and The Line of Best Fit to name a few.
Fifi Rong was born in Beijing and carries a British nationality, as she is currently based in London. The singer-songwriter has had an extraordinary journey through her career and constantly seeks inspiration in new forms as she moves forward, including atmospheric, moody and dark UK underground sounds. In turn, her own sound can be associated with the likes of Bjork, Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser, FKA Twigs, ANOHNI and Massive Attack as she displays contemporary ballads with atmospheric production with the emotional and melancholic tones of Shlohmo, Sevdaliza and the sultry sensuality of Lana Del Rey.
The singer is further embracing music and multimedia by becoming highly involved in the NFT community, marking herself as one of the forerunners in the artistic evolution. Fifi Rong is encouraging other artists to embrace the medium alongside her by hosting regular online discussions on Twitter every week. The innovative producer taps into a direct-to-fan approach with her work as she uses crowdfunding to sponsor the development of her upcoming double album. Fifi Rong appreciates each contribution, giving thanks to her fans with a free NFT airdrop as well as allowing people to own/license a stake of her music, the value of which will grow as the songstress does.
Feel the inevitable passing of time run across your shoulders and through your heart with the latest magnetic single from Fifi Rong, a foreshadow of the theme for her upcoming LP. While mixing Chinese and British cultures together, the songstress allows her strong vocals to delicately caress the soul in ‘Out Of Clock’, enrobing the sound with deep, multi-layered production and sealing it with a kiss of sombre undertones.
Speaking of the song, Fifi Rong tells us, “‘Out of Clock’ is the theme song of the Double Album There Is A Funeral In My Heart, For Every Man I loved 心葬 so in the song, I repeatedly said the song title in a monologue in both Chinese and English. It’s the final revelation of what this album is about. The monologue on the Chinese side describes why there is a funeral in my heart, for every man I loved. I guess for those who don’t understand Chinese, they’ll just have to follow me closely and tune into my exclusive album release journey on one of my many platforms where I will be telling them the full story.”
