After appearances on Soma, MORD, RSPX and more in the past few years, Mexico’s Fixon drops his first Hardgroove Records EP on October 31st, ‘UFO Wrangler’. Taking in four tracks of tightly wound, swing-heavy Techno, the ‘UFO Wrangler’ EP displays the technical and musical nous that Fixon has built up in his twenty-five-year-plus career.
Title-track ‘UFO Wrangler’ kicks off the EP with clipped vocal samples playing off a fluttering melody, creating a rhythmic lock atop the track’s already heavy groove. ‘Damp Palms’ doubles down on the musicality, with another earworm lead balancing the percussive cut beneath, while ‘Scented Words’ ramps up the tension with a claustrophobic, truncated synth riff. Closing out, ‘Instructions’ utilises a staccato string stab that gives an aggressive but musical energy to a 909 tom-driven peak time destroyer.
