Virginia native Floyd Fuji today reveals his summer ready new offering, Breadwinner, a vibrant alternative pop cut laiden with more than a little bit of funk. Featuring Fuji’s dreamy vocals over skyscraping production, the track is a stellar ode to ambition. Complemented by the razor sharp flows of Topaz Jones, the track is perfect for party playlists. Speaking on the track, Floyd Fuji states:
Breadwinner is a song about the toxicities of dating in the 21st century. Everyone wants to just feel wanted and needed, but sometimes we get in our own way; projecting an exaggerated version of ourselves to fit a description and be better than it.
More on Floyd Fuji…
Born in Richmond, Virginia, and molded in its skate parks, singer-songwriter and guitarist Floyd Fuji (Kyle Thornton). Now based in Los Angeles, Thornton crafts R&B uninhibited by typical expectations of the genre, inspired by an eclectic collection of greats like the Isley Brothers, D’Angelo and Two Door Cinema Club. “Drama,” Thornton’s first single as Floyd Fuji, landed on Spotify Fresh Finds, its plays quickly surpassed by those of his following releases. Since moving to Los Angeles he’s performed in the house band for Kanye West’s Sunday Service and also collaborated in sessions with industry leaders including Anderson .Paak and Babyface. More recently, Floyd’s music has been featured on NPR, KCRW, BBC Radio 1xtra and synced in TV shows “Harlem” and “How I Met Your Father”. The debut Floyd Fuji EP Black Pontiac is just beginning to define Thornton’s sound. It evokes the nostalgia of home. The crackle of a worn-in vinyl record meets a vision set firmly on the future.
